Agree the developments along 10th have made a massive improvement, but regarding the early 2000's parallel you made with east hastings, I gotta question if you ever have actually walked east hastings. I don't think 10th was ever that dire.

indeed I have, else I wouldn't have made the parallel

while east hastings certainly looks rougher than beltline did back then, I've never had my stabby-sense tingle like I did on that wander down 10th.. Off the cuff I'd chalk it up to the drug of choice in the repsective street communities. Vancouver of course being a well known heroin hole, while the faster paced environment in Calgary seems to make amphetamines the spice of street life

In any case, Edmonton is the only place I've actually been randomly assaulted, and not even on a particularly bad street.. so you never can tell

NOTHING can be sketchier than East Hastings Street, Vancouver. Are you kidding?!

I've never had that stabbing sense tingly feeling along 10th, but I have along East Hastings.

Well it was ~15 years ago.. things around 10th have definitely improved!

Don't spend much time in Vancouver anymore though, maybe Hastings has too?

Development related, has there been any rumblings about the other hotel to the west of Marriot starting anytime soon?

Not sure about that one but I've heard some rumblings about the one on 5th Ave. & 5th? St. going to tender in the fall.

I hope this is true, it would be an excellent improvment to that block.
