Marriott Residence

Noticed a few bins out back of the Alberta boots site, this might be close to starting. Could spur some more new office tower construction along the tracks next cycle. The full proposal also includes a second rental tower.

There was also a rumor that GWL was backing out, so this may be preparation for demo so it can become a parking lot

It can't become a parking lot, the city won't allow any new surface lots downtown. Will probably just stay as is if GWL really does back out...

Don't like that at all. Ground is not even broken and the building already looks dated and bland.

Getting bored fast with basic boring architecture being sold off to people by adding some color. Rectangles are simply not that interesting and Calgary has more than their share.

Could just be a rumour as there's def work going on, or possibly they're prepping the site to sell to another developer. Either way the amount of hotel delays is alarming considering the nearly 20M office square footage completed or u/c within the City Centre these last couple cycles.

Spring2008: This isn't the "Alberta Boots" site... Right? I voted I like it! There was no option for "OK". Not a big fan of the "Burnt Red" color. Was hoping a while back this would have hit the 450'-500' mark! Guess we'll have wait for CCII!

Another 300 pedestrians with per diems and expense accounts in the Beltline could look a lot worse

I love it in relation to its location along the tracks. 10th av is starting to take on its own funky vibe with interesting new retail renovations and new towers with unique cladding/designs such as this, 6th and 10th, Mark, Wam, Place on 10, Centre 10. Hope this one breaks ground soon.

This is the Alberta Boots site. Not sure what's up with CC2, there were rumors of another Fairmont for the core, since then absolutely nothing. Not even an announcement for pre-sales on the condo portion.

Looks great for being right along the tracks. Going to CPC next week for DP approval.

Just occurred to me this is going to put two new Marriotts within a 650m walk of each other.

Architecturally, it's pretty good for a Residence Inn. I think the interaction with 10th could be so much better. The porte cochere and parkade podium is unfortunate. The CRUs are boring on their own right but, made worse through copy and paste.

Don't see the big deal having two Marriott brands 650 metrs apart. Guarranteed the airport offers two or more brands from one chain on one property. Forgot East Village.

Marriott Residences in the Beltline
The City recently received a building permit application from IBI Group for a mixed use development located at 614 10 AV SW (Beltline). The 542,285 sq feet project consists of a Marriott Hotel, Retail and a 30 storey condo tower of 303 units. The site was previously used as a parking lot and former home to Alberta Boots. Total estimated construction costs are $158 million.
