The brown tile in the stairwells looks so 80s. I hope that's not going to be the final product, because the overall concept of the building looks so modern and contemporary!

I think it is going to be the same mix of terracotta and steel as the exterior will be.

Wow! Very exciting project.
Great to have this aaaannnd a new central library in development at roughly the same time - two great additions to downtown.

The steel frame should be topped out by the time I get back from vacation in early August

Just imagine reviewing the shop drawings for all those steel. As much as it would be a headache to ensure every angle and dimensions are to tolerable ranges, it would also be exciting to see some artsy creative techniques that the fabricators came up with to solve some unique problems in regards to attachment and lateral loadings. This kind of steel framing is seen in well established cities in USA, Asia, Europe etc as cowtown is so accustomed to typical basic elementary designs.. Maybe the lazy engineers solution. Which I HATE!

This project as well as the library, Bow, Telus Sky should show the local firms that innovative liberal designs do have a place and is worth the risk and investment.
I'm sure areas like the tapering face and those glaciated light crevasses at the middle of the floors do create a challenge, but a fun challenge indeed..

I am just glad that 3 of these amazing new buildings we're getting/have are in such prominent locations, NMC right next to the tracks, going over a road, and Telus Sky and The Bow just being very prominent tall towers. The location of the new library is somewhat regrettable, as it will be boxed in on all sides by taller structures, but it will still be great.

Has anyone heard of what the plan is for the building over top of 4th part? Are they going to be closing the road for a few months?

I hope it is not closed "for a few months"! I can imagine being closed for "some" time, but without getting as elaborate, as a touchstone they need to look at how the library will be built on top of the LRT without the LRT being shut down.

If it's closed for a few months that will really screw up Saddledome access.

They are planning to build a temporary bridge for construction to minimize road closure. (see http://www.waltersgroupinc.com/proje...-music-centre/)

It's cool, sure. But it kinda looks like an uninviting medieval fortress hybrid in that render..

It actually kind of looks like a brutalist structure, but covered in tile.

That south side looks quite flat compared to the initial concepts, IIRC they were rounded.

I was just telling my wife yesterday how this reminded me of a new version of ACAD (we both went there) and she agreed.

Ultimately the tile will make or break this imo. I'm not crazy about how it looks in this rendering. I kind of wish they had made the building silver, or charcoal or anything instead.
