I think my issue is that before it looked very ethereal and airy. Now with the solid black lines it looks heavier and less elegant. It also detracts from seeing it as one sculptural form, into a grid pattern of boxes. Some may actually like that, but to me it's the equivalent of American sportscasters drawing circles around the puck in hockey games as if it was too hard for the audience to see it on their own.

Love the street level revisions - much improved from the earlier iteration.

I confess to flip-flopping, I actually do prefer the original white upon reflection. Both still look awesome though.

KW5150: I liked your idea on another thread about "waterfront development"! Comparing Eau Claire to, I'm assuming Vancouver..... anyway I got a kick out it!

I actually prefer the clear lines look. Made the building look more transparent and blend with the sky more.

Agreed. It had a great organic look before, like it was something that could have been grown instead of built. From a distance the boxes weren't all that obvious.

Now... the black lines just make the building scream 'HEY LOOK BOXES!!!'
Gives it the feel of a taller version of Habitat 67, turns it into a shiny old building instead of something that looks like it came from the future.

Doesn't remind me of Habitat 67 at all which looks like randomly stacked boxes pointing in every direction. This has a distinctive subway tile pattern with planned setbacks to accentuate the curve. I know it's relatively minor to the point you're making but, still had to comment.

Exciting news for that corner!

Walking upstairs to that garden will be much less sketchier than walking up to the ol' Sportsman!

Was driving north into downtown from Macleod and just imagining how amazing the view will be like as you approach the city centre when this and Brookfield are up.

Very exciting!

This is another one of those projects just waiting for their BP in order to proceed, since its all rentals and they have an anchor tenant for the office portion. Luckily, the approval process is going at a decent pace.

Trippy but sweet.. The façade at the street level looks quite nice too - very simple and clean

Also noticed a pic on Druh's twitter of a model of the building. Can't tell because of the back lighting if it is in fact dark between the boxes or remains white. Overall it looked quite light still so I hold out hope it stays the same.
