This is correct to my recollection. Plus there's the enormous development of 20-or-so towers southwest of the Leslie/Sheppard intersection, which were announced around the same time and have only inched forward since. 4 are now done and other parts of the site are being excavated.

Etobicoke's piece of Miami more like it . I believe the tallest is 66 stories - I don't recall any mention that it's going to be 70 (though it wouldn't surprise me). Where did he get this information from?

My bad, I thought it went from 66 to 70, not 62 to 66.

Sorry about that.

Total height is right, it will be 229 meters.

How cool would it be to have a 70 story there though? Outside of downtown!

Once the Humber Bay skyline is built up (after Eau De Soleil is done) the GTA is going to have 3 very large identifiable skylines within a 30 km stretch (I think Mississauga to DT is about 30 k right?) Very cool

You're right, ballpark figures it's about 30 km between downtown Mississauga and the CBD of Toronto

Dwils caught some photos of the shoring rigs on site.

Another big boy getting underway in "The Dot!"

The taller tower is 66 Floors and 230 meters.

Kind of random question and technical, but are the community council just advisory, or can they stop developments with the force of law?

They are just advisory. City council has the final say, but even a rejection from city council can, and often is, appealed to the Ontario Municipal Board, which tends to be highly pro-development

Interesting. I've never heard of a board higher than a city council when it comes to urban local development. Where I'm from, if a developer believes that a project (usually a rezoning) was rejected illegally, they take it to the courts.

So, I take it that the Ontario Municipal Board is some kind of provincial agency, or is it a direct committee of the provincial legislature?

The OMB replaces the courts. They have been known to overstep their jurisdiction by rewriting planning policy which has led to calls of their dissolution but, it's exceedingly rare in a pro development city like Toronto. Many cases appealed to the OMB, are resolved outside of the court.

the OMB is essentially a court that handles municipal issues. they often rule in favor of developers as developers tend to 1. be able to spend more on lawyers than the cash-strapped planning department and 2. the city often denies applications due to rather silly local opposition, when there are already precedents in the area for that kind of development.

It's not true at all otherwise you wouldn't see developers willing to compromise their designs in order to satisfy the city's desire. The city is also willing to work with proposals I don't understand the need to vilify the city while the OMB is the hero that saves the developer from doom. Of course, I'm not irrational about development.

The typical case which isn't resolved outisde the court would go like this. The developer proposes 180 metres. The city wants 120 metres. The OMB approves 130 metres. Who do you think won?

Developers are consistently pushing the envelope. There rarely is pecedence for the OMB to rule in their favour without grossly overstepping their bounds by rewriting the zoning.
