Glowrock's "Glow Rocks!"

Well folks, perhaps it's now time to see why the infamous Glowrock has his name! Check out some of my fluorescent minerals!

Well Watusi, they ARE my major hobby! Fluorescent minerals, AKA Glowrocks!

So you know, these are all taken under various wavelengths of ultraviolet light... Shortwave, midwave, or longwave.

What type of rocks are they? My dad used to work at a "rock shop" about 30 years ago. They bought and sold and traded rocks. He was a geology geek too. He had a friend that had a ranch. He used to go out there with his old truck. This old Ford pick up he had had a tow truck transmission in it. He used to load the bed to the rim with petrified wood and that old truck would jump out of the mud like a frog. Anyway, we still have tons of rock and stones laying around the yard. Even some chunks of crystal and amethyst. We have one piece of petrified wood that's a little bit smaller than a beach ball. It weighs about 80 pounds.

They're all types, but predominately calcite, fluorite, scheelite, and powellite. Lots of others such as many times of chalcedony, lots of caliche, etc... Plenty of common minerals in Franklin, NJ (like Willemite), but not too common outside of there.

We still have some fluorite laying around out there somewhere too. I didn't realize the stuff glowed.

They'd be cooler if I could get the shots more clear! It's extremely difficult to capture fluorescent minerals well. Hard enough to get a clear, non-blurred image, yet alone good color saturation and representation!

Some of them are very, very bright. Some hyalite opal from North Carolina is so bright you can literally read a book using only the fluorescence given off by the mineral!

You should request a name change

Woah! Can you send me some?

I feel like it'd be cool to do shrooms and look at them in the dark!

Make you a deal. I'll send you a couple of rocks that would fluoresce under a normal "blacklight" (meaning a poster lamp), and you send me some shrooms!
