1/23/2019 Essex Apartments

The building sometimes seems to almost disappear against a blue sky.

gillynova - 100 Folsom is the one that will block the view of the San Francisco Bay bridge tower in my view (telephoto used to get this up-close view). The tallest building is at 400 Folsom, and the one in construction on the right is 500 Folsom. A lot happening on Folsom Street!

Recall the criticism when the first cladding went on the midrise "affordable" portion?

I said "wait" (sort of) then.

And you're right. It's a nice looking building.

What material is in those insets? It looks to be corrugated metal, but hard to tell. Regardless, the metal flashings at the joints make the application look pretty cheap. Otherwise this is a decent looking tower.

It is unbelievable how ugly the building is and the design of it is cheapy.

Totally disagree.

The staggered massing does a great job creating some texture and healthy visual breaks. The glass color will (surprisingly) coordinate nicely with the orange-ish balcony setbacks.

It looks especially when coming over the bridge and down Freemont exit.

I agree with you about everything except the orange. I don't know when orange became the "it" color in modern SF buildings but it's time to move on.

Just ignore him/her. He/She repeats the same thing on every Bay Area project.

Most likely because the Giants color is orange and people think that right away when they think of San Francisco.

What other modern SF building has orange on it?

Would be cool if they lit up the panels or orange sides. It is a nice project and stands out from the other neighboring buildings that reflect the glass facades.

I totally agree. To me it makes our skyline more unique and I'm sure foreigners would make the same comment about the building.

The one on the right here is what came immediately to mind but it seems like I've seen it too often:

Google Streetview

I'm not a fan of brick red that comes from other than bricks either.

Yes—I agree. I added SFBuildings888 to my Ignore list a while ago and that person has been removed from the theads for me ever since. They are consistently negative and irrelevant.
