Anyone hear that horrible story about the elderly woman in Ontario who was scalded and disfigured by her Tim Horton's tea? Reminiscent of the McDonald's case with the coffee. I know these things get written off as frivolous lawsuits but it is crazy how hot they heat some drinks. It's especially frustrating at drive thru when they don't even put a sleeve on the cup (as in this case). It's alleged that the cup also collapsed as they handed it to her and she spilled it all over her lap. Shudder...

Now Tim's is claiming it's her own fault and it's a frivolous suit. Ugly indeed.

Edit: Here's the link https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/woman-sui...ured-1.6319801 *warning graphic pictures.

$500K is peanuts compared to American cases.

Most of the rural communities in Newfoundland off the tourist trail have lost their grandest buildings when they failed to become large enough settlements to keep them going. Especially churches were often renovated to make them more affordable to maintain. A couple of examples (pics from FB)…

A day late but nice to see the raging orange gorilla taken down! Here’s a flashback friday to the time Clockzilla defended our border from the world’s largest anus.

Apparently Eddy Savoie is buying the Venetian in Edmonton and converting it into a Sunshine Residences Alberta. Premier Danielle Smith welcomed the investment though cautioned it will have to abide by Alberta’s newly minted language laws. Any mention of global warming, emissions, vaccines or anything woke are strictly forbidden. Also, no french is allowed in written or spoken form.

This house in North York is fine, but I find the top section unnecessarily awkward. I'd take this house over what was there before but if they renovated the previous one and put a new facade on it, then I think I'd prefer the old one.

And I wonder why they got rid of the hedges and one of the trees. Sometimes it's as simple as "Get rid of it. It's in the way.". That's what I imagine the flipper/developer said because it's not his house and they had to constantly go back and forth with construction material. Also, there's no railing on the porch. Would be ideal, especially in a place that has winter.

I bet that porch is 599.9 mm tall, and doesn't need a railing per code.

Is that indoor wood paneling on the neighbouring beast of a building?

That doesn't look like something a flipper or developer would do for profit, it would have cost a lot for that extra space etc., but appears pretty neat and professional. It resembles a Swiss chalet, but the top clerestory windows don't line up, so a little awkward, but better than the original.

Breathtaking vista of a garbage dump from a new neighbourhood in Calgary:

https://www.google.com/maps/@50.8665...7i13312!8i6656

Fugly ass condos that might as well be featureless clone stamped grain elevators:

https://www.google.com/maps/@50.8629...7i16384!8i8192

https://www.google.com/maps/@50.8630...7i16384!8i8192

The finished product somehow looks worse. There is zero landscaping or fencing of any kind past that corner. The ground entrances on the main floor of the second building to the right open right onto a patch of sod a meter wide and then the sidewalk.

Those floors look like they have no headroom. Is it built for munchkins or dwarves?
