I wish the tower (above the base) wasn't set back from the street...

^ Same. That's always off-putting.

Just bring the tower down to the street. Enough with the 'the sidewalk and pedestrians can't handle a big, modern building right up against them, let's pretend and turn it into something else so the people don't revolt' silliness. It's a little 'less in your face' disneyfied design. The whole Fulton design guidelines were well-intended but they desperately need to be changed or go away for new construction.

Guys, the Fulton design guidelines don't apply to a tower on Van Buren. There's no Landmarks review, and given the age of the tower, I think it predated the new Design Committee. Meaning, they did that brick base voluntarily.

See 301 S Green, also in this "south" part of West Loop. While it was being approved last year, Goettsch actually reduced the brick base and brought the glass curtainwall down to grade in response to the design feedback. The experience from the sidewalk is anything but boring.

Fulton projects galore. I spotted tower cranes from 360 Green, 210 Aberdeen, 160 Morgan, 225 N. Elizabeth, Embry, Cassidy on Canal, 741 N. Wells, 868 N. Wells and 1000M -- plus caisson work at 1112 W. Carroll.

The multi-tower proposal in the linked-to article and my comments were actually about 370, 400, and 401 N. Morgan - not the stuff further south.

what an amazing picture, plus all the newer "blue" towers near wolf point all show different textures.

Very nice photo. Way more open lots and surface parking lots than I thought in the area. Plenty of space to build up.

Well, a significant number of those open lots are new, where previous buildings have been brought down in anticipation of development. Less true of the parking lots, though the further west the greater the parking lots.

That's such an epic picture of Chicago, so many of those buildings weren't there 5 or 10 years ago.

Imagine how it'll look in 5 to 10 years from now.
