Interesting tower. I think this is the kind of thing Miami is lacking. Chintzy amusements to make tourists go "wow". It also gives Miami city itself an identity. Most outsiders don't think of downtown Miami because it's lacking iconic buildings.

‘ICONIC’ FERRIS WHEEL IS NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT BAYSIDE MARKETPLACE

Quote:
Construction is now underway on an observation wheel at Bayside Marketplace in downtown Miami.

Opening is scheduled before the Super Bowl in February 2020, and pieces of the wheel have been in storage in Miami for months now waiting to be installed.

Bayside representatives have previously said the wheel will be “iconic.”

The 176-foot tall wheel will be lit up with LEDs, but will be much shorter than the London Eye which is 443 feet.

It will also be much smaller than the proposed Skyrise tower next door, which is proposed to top off 1,049 feet above sea level (Skyrise site work has been underway for some time, but little progress is evident).

Skywheel will feature forty-two air-conditioned gondolas that seat eight passengers each, for a total of 336 passengers. Each gondola will be fully enclosed and climate controlled. The slow-moving observation wheel ride will last from 12 to 15 minutes. Tickets will be sold by app or kiosk.

Not sure Miami should enter it's Dubai phase with this iffy tower.

Stick with subtle, original designs to grow a great skyline.

What's up with SkyRise? The webcam has not been updated since September and no new info since 'groundbreaking'.

Skyrise is going to be assembled part by part. Pieces to come via barge (already fabricated) and essentially put together.

SkyRise Website Has Been Taken Down, With No Construction Permits Active

The SkyRise Miami website has been taken offline.
Visitors to the site have been greeted with an error message since at least last week.
There’s also no recent activity in construction permitting.
A construction permit that was applied for in early 2020 has been cancelled, city records show.
Although the construction permit was filed for, no plans had been filed by the end of 2020.
The permit is now listed as being cancelled by the city administration.
Two other permits for demolition and sea wall work at the SkyRise site remain in progress, but there hasn’t been any activity on them for years.

Hopefully this will be the last news that we will hear from this God awful project!

This and Tower Fifth are the only two US supertalls I'm okay with being cancelled / not happening.

Seems Miami has another supertall in the pipeline anyway.

Adieu, SkyRise Miami. Developer cancels plans to build 1,000-foot observation tower

BY REBECCA SAN JUAN
JUNE 28, 2021

Quote:
SkyRise Miami, a 1,000-foot-tall vertical amusement park planned for downtown near Bayfront Park, survived a decade of legal challenges, political opposition and rising construction costs. But the pandemic finally felled the innovative and controversial project, said developer Jeffrey Berkowitz.

“We moved heaven and earth during almost 10 years of challenges, obstacles, and adversity,” Berkowitz wrote in a statement to the Herald. “Despite everything we have endured and overcome, it is clear that given the unprecedented challenges presented by Covid-19 to the tourism, hospitality, and entertainment industries, I have no alternative but to cease construction and to abandon our efforts to build this project.”
