Philly streets department has the full say, IIRC.

Not everyone is on board with brick replicas. Broadly speaking, when it comes to design approaches and our opinions on individual projects, there's quite a bit of diversity on this forum. (Not commenting on this individual project but more on your comment that implies group-think on architecture.)

If you want to see a recent Old City development that’s legitimately bad check out 48 N 3rd. I don’t how it got passed approvals. The driveway/parking area is almost laughably awful.

To join in on the debate about this building, I actually agree with TonyTone in that this building is pretty nice looking and generally pretty contextual.

Way better than what's there. Kinda a dead zone over there, tho.

I was referring to 48 N 3rd. I very much dislike the newest iteration of 2nd and Race.

Gotcha. Yeah, I really don't mind that N.3rd project either. It looks better in person with the rest of the block.

Race Street is uggo AF. Agreed.

I'm holding out hope for something nice to fill out the lot at 209 N 2nd, directly east of the Bridge on Race apts. The death of another billboard would be a nice side effect.

Ya. I hear that billboard has been a thorn in many a' side for years. It's been a battle. The people at The Bridge have been loud about tearing it down as it impacts the view.

I'm most interested in that proposal for a boutique hotel/bar/restaurant at Arch and 69 N. 2nd (the old Economy Restaurant Supply). It would be the first liquor license between Market and Race and I think it would open up that stretch to more. 2nd street is a barren sh!tshow right now.

Two very different opinions. I see good points on both sides, but leaning more toward hit pause (for now). Thoughts?

For those going from the City to jobs in KoP, how much time is this really going to save them vs taking the bus? Taking those buses off the roads will reduce congestion by how much? And how many people who normally drive from the City to KoP will actually ditch their cars in favor of this line?

For who live in KoP and need to get into the City, what's the breakdown between those who are daily rush hour commuters (probably less than there was before the pandemic) vs those who go into town (off-peak) every once in a while? How many of these people will actually abandon their cars in favor of this line?

I just don't know that the expense is worth shifting a few people off of buses and shaving a few minutes of their commutes. I would much prefer funds being used to double down on where transit is being used the most (e.g., shorter headways). If there's one new line that needs to happen, it must be connecting CC to the Navy Yard.

how many are daily rush hour commuters (surely, fewer than there were before the pandemic)? How many only go into the City every so often

I think the majority of us is against this extension. Unfortunately Septa management is pushing for this project.
I would love if we can focus in city projects for Septa, it has been decades rail inside the city limits has been expanded.

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadel...Pos=0#cxrecs_s

Barcade is taking to Center City to open its second Philadelphia outpost, which the New York-based company aims to debut by early 2023. The hybrid bar-and-arcade concept is headed to the historic three-story Hale Building at 1326 Chestnut St.

Awesome! The Hale building is the perfect location for this.

Philadelphia is a chosen city for the 2026 World Cup Games!

NYC and Boston are the other cities in the Northeast.
DC didn't make it (I'm secretly chuckling at DC).

Will we have enough hotels? I’d expect all star games coming here as well.
