My question is what's going on with the gas station at Chicago and Orleans, which is also being torn up right now.

"And here's No 9 Walton! The most expensive condo building in Chicago."
*video shows Waldorf Astoria*

Meanwhile, still waiting on LG to finish the exterior of the Ronsley.

This looks exciting! Seems like the center will act as a community bridge between North Lawndale and Little Village

yeah that said it says theyre looking for 1M in grant funding to build it which seems fairly ambitious for what appears to be a pretty bare bones social justice non-profit (even if they do get the land for free from the city)

Not sure if this was posted yet, I found this at Chicago Yimby. Planned for corner of Broadway and Wilson to replace the City Sports store

Now we just need that shitty strip mall with the Checks Cashed store replaced with something similar and that intersection will be 100 times better

Looks way too much like the other generic condos that went up in that area over the last 15 years. It's hard to tell what the quality of the materials /detailing will be from that render but it's not inspiring confidence. But there's no parking podium or curb cuts so hooray for that

It seems like this is what always happens when some historical advocacy group (or whatever) gets involved: The design ends up more incongruous with its surroundings than a contemporary design. And there's that unsettling feeling of it being in an uncanny valley of representation: The scale is never right, there is a pretense of material presentation, there are fortress-like blocks of 'masonry' (that are especially off-putting at street level), etc. etc., ad nauseam -- the feeling of artificiality and deception is unshakable.

It's a shame, because PH's contemporary work is completely palatable (some of it quite pleasing, IMO). To wit: this building in Grand Rapids (or similar) would be times over better for the Uptown parcel.

Some architects are better than others - SGW has done some pretty nice trad designs for Candea.

If anyone has any updated photos of the site on the northwest corner of State & Division, would be appreciated. Caissons and superstructure up to level 3 slab permitted a few weeks ago.

Tower crane erection at UIC Outpatient Center. Nice, glassy design for the relatively bland 'brick and mortar' UIC campus.

In totally boring yet somewhat notable news, a new Taco Bell is coming to 941 W Randolph, in the Fulton Market. A storefront just a few doors West of Floyds Barbershop. Unusual, though supreme location for a Taco Bell.

I feel this picture needs a flying pig balloon in it.

Yeah, I'd bet a lot of money it would be the trendier Taco Bell Cantina which serves alcohol.

Peak consumerist irony.
