We seem to have forgotten about this one. I saw it from a train the other day and it was at least 6 stories off of the ground. Can anyone snap a pic?

The Aldi sits astride that closed portion of Melon Street, and the tower stretches all the way back to 13th Street, at least according to the site plan.

The lot bounded by 13th, Park, Melon, and Wallace is also part of 1300 Fairmount's site but is supposed to be a second "townhouse" phase at some indeterminate point in the future.

Another property immediately south of 1300 Fairmount along Ridge recently got redeveloped into an apartment building, which you can see in the construction progress photos.

Isn't that effect just due to the sharp angle of the south wall, which is perpendicular to Ridge, rather than Broad?

I couldn't imagine......Knock it back about 10-15 years ago, The Divine Lorraine was a run down long abandoned building. It was frequently occupied by vagrants, graffiti writers. There was a shelter right across the street, which added to it's decline. It was stripped by it's former owner of it's valuable light fixtures, copper pipes etc.. I thought for sure it was destined for the wrecking ball thinking, good riddance!

But the ole Divine Lorraine had good bones. I read it was actually over-engineered, when constructed. One of the reasons why it stood the test of time in long-term neglect. They simply don't make 'em like they used to!

Not to mention that the Ridge Avenue corridor was still in decline until as recently as 2016, though it really caught on fire back in 2018! I live in Francisville now and I've heard stories about how pizza delivery drivers wouldn't touch my neighborhood back in the 90s. If you're either a transplant or a younger Philly native (like me, born in 1995), it's hard to imagine that a neighborhood like Francisville had ever fallen as hard as the old-timers say.

Nothing but good things are going to happen for neighborhoods and buildings touching the Ridge Avenue corridor. Just about every neighborhood it touches is stable (pretty much all of the Northwest), revitalizing (Francisville, Spring Arts), or has the potential to see much more development this decade (Strawberry Mansion and Allegheny West)!
