The terracotta would've been stunning and was heavily marketed as a defining trait of this development, but I doubt it was the reason it passed through approvals. Also, if the goal is to get developers to stick to higher quality materials, I don't think adding more hoops for them to jump through would help.

Are there current images from anywhere other than the East side of the buildings?

Not to my knowledge, the drawing showed just how wide to building is from North / South angle though which is pretty cool. They look way skinner East / West.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic but I think the current facade will look halfway decent at least.

They don't build them like they used to though. Too many modern buildings are cheap.

Watched "Ape vs. Mechanical Ape" (don't ask), and this site played a pivotal role in the movie.

Even without terracotta, it looks like this will be a premium facade system with a lot of custom aluminum extrusions, and (possibly) a true curtainwall system for the glazing. The best example here is Embry in West Loop...

Watched it in a “how bad can it be?” sorta way. It was very bad. But the decision to use the Spire site like they did, you know that would never happen.

This should be breaking ground any week now. Unless things got pushed back.

Chicagoan forumers should watch for activity on the site.

Are they going to somehow re-use the existing giant hole in the ground?

I happened to see an excavator on site that I can't recall seeing before. . . maybe it's been there the whole time, waiting. . .

This is great.... Between the Casino/Airport front, it's nice to see something moving forward as planned (to a degree).

When do we consider this under construction again, I wonder?

Technically?

When the caisson drill bits first taste dirt.

Realistically?

Right now, because they have the construction loan.

Money is the only thing that ultimately matters.

The year is 2023, and we are back again, looking at that hole. Time is a flat circle.
