90 stories sounds nice, but it could be that they're conflating "90 stories" with 90 floors. 90 stories is almost always shorter than 90 floors. 90 stories can be referencing a 900 foot building. 90 floors really could be a 1,200 footer. We'll just have to wait and see when more details come out. But I'm always cautious of the height when they use "stories" instead of floors to suggest the height.

Forma in Toronto is to be 92 floors, at 1001 ft. (Last I checked.

Central Park Tower at 1,550 ft is 98 floors.

Affirmation Tower will be 1,663 ft at 90 floors.

The building height "could" 1,200 ft. Or it could not be.

Look at how insanely fast Austin is getting new tallest buildings:

Frost Bank Tower, 515 ft, tallest in 2004-2008
360 Condominiums, 581 ft, tallest in 2008-2010
The Austonian, 683 ft, tallest in 2010-2019
The Independent, 690 ft, tallest in 2019-2022?
Sixth and Guadalupe, 875 ft, tallest in 2022-2026?
98 Red River, 1022 ft, tallest 2026-?

A 1200+ footer within a decade is completely possible.

We should get some insight into the ~90 story tower at 3rd and Congress around the end of the year... perhaps we will get some conceptual idea of actual height then. If they are gonna build it I bet they go taller than 1022.

Like I said, using stories is a generic method. I've been to the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio where they happily tell you it's "75 stories tall" - which is funny since the tower only has three actual floors. The 75 stories they're referring to is the 750 foot height, and that's counting the antenna, which isn't even how buildings are officially measured. That antenna now is shorter, and the height now is 732 feet. The actual roof height is only 622 feet.

Anyway, I have no doubt that what gets built on the lot will be tall. It's a really long narrow lot that partially wraps around the Austonian.

As forum member 360 Ray is so graciously doing for The Republic tower, it is paramount this building progress is documented publicly as well. Being the cities first super tall is something that will never happen again and it would be a shame if we did not collectively watch its progress in detail. Could one of us with clout make a phone call to Kairoi or DPR?

The construction barricades extend pretty far out and there’s so much activity in this area. Very difficult to capture the site from ground level until it begins to rise.

I've always thought they were synonyms

Regardless, it's nice to finally see some construction in Austin

Austin's city council must be totally different than city council's in Houston and Dallas and/or those two city's real estate prices are vastly higher than Austin's because both cities have been pretty dead construction wise for years while Austin's obviously been booming. San Antonio which is the same population as Austin has 1 building over 500 feet, very soon Austin will have 9

What? "Finally see some construction in Austin?" Construction in central Austin has been quite active for more than 20 consecutive years. And, that does not include the tremendous about of construction on traffic corridors, The Domain, and other urban developments.

Actually, Austin's council is filled with NIMBY's and leans left on most topics. Also, RE prices in Austin are higher than in Dallas and Houston. Not the other way around.

When you include built, U/C, submitted site plans awaiting approval and current proposals - Austin may have in the neighborhood of 32 buildings above 500' tall by 2028.

Just to give those who are not in Austin some context of what is going on in the immediate area around the 98 Red River site. There is a tower currently under construction, called the Travis Residential Tower, also in the early stages, (though one of it's tower cranes was recently put up) that will be just under 600 feet which bumps right up to 98 Red River to the south. In addition there could be an 800 footer which has been proposed that will litterally be right against the Travis, still waiting on when that will get started, but could hear more on that later this year. Thats 2 separate construction sites bumped right up to eachother, with a 3rd potentially on the way to starting over the next few months. That is just what is right by 98 Red River. When you factor in the rest of the Rainey Street District, several more highrises that are in various ground work stages which will all be rising at about the same time as 98 Red River, most of which will be in 500- 700 foot range. The entire southeast corner of Downtown Austin is gaining a new skyline in it's own right. There's a neat little video on YouTube that runs down what is going up in that area.
