Interesting Facts/Records:
Inspired by the success of Estonia's first high-voltage line design mast, Soorebane, Elering decided to deploy the next design mast as part of a major project to connect the continental European electricity grid. Estonia's second design mast was erected in August 2022 on the edge of the city of Tartu, at the intersection of the Tallinn-Tartu highway and Tiksoja road.
The Sookurg design pylon belongs to the same family as the Soorebane, Estonia's first design pylon, which was erected in 2020 in Läänemaa. Both masts were designed by architects Sille Pihlak and Siim Tuksam from the architectural firm PART.
Sookurg carries the wires of Elering's powerful 330-kilovolt Baltic-Tartu transit line, the Estonian-Latvian electricity interconnection, and the 110-kilovolt power line of local importance. Sookurg is part of a major project that will see Estonia connect to the continental European grid by 2026 at the latest.
