170 N. Green Zoom Meeting 03.23.22

So the WLCO Zoom meeting for 170 N. Green just ended and nothing negative thus far.

-I asked if they were planning a hotel rooftop bar, and the answer is yes.

-Small design changes including a bridge structure that connected the two hotel wings has been dropped.

-They said they'd like to begin construction 4th Quarter 2022 with completion of the project about 24 months thereafter.

I agree it is great. I’m just wondering why oh why they don’t shift the taller structure to the North to let more light into that walkway and all buildings. Perhaps the concern is blocking light of the buildings on the North side of Lake street? Otherwise it kinda seems like a no brainer. It also makes a more gradual transition height-wise from Restaurant Row, which some people were concerned about.

BMO Tower

March 21, 2022

Looks like the BMO Tower thread is closed, which is interesting since the 110 N Wacker thread is still open.

Thanks for the reporting, BVic.

I want to like this, but all I see is a tacky monstrosity. I don't see how that 'plaza' will ever be activated with anything. I don't think it's there as an asset for the neighborhood; it's to separate the programming of the various towers and get natural light for the occupants. It's simply a light well (and it will feel like standing in one at ground level, I'm betting).

I agree about the plaza. Looking at the first image posted, I don't see how that's going to get more than 3 hours of sunlight on the ground each day. Maybe if they got rid of the 'U' shape and opened it up and it was possible to walk (without the tunnel) diagonally from Peoria to Green St. This is mostly a problem for the building occupants though. I think it will fit into the neighborhood fine.

Apparently 344 Canal is officially called "Cassidy on Canal." Can't save the facade, save the name.

Weird, especially since the Cassidy Tire chain is very much still in business.

Naming buildings is very lame, unless they are a landmark in some way. Sears, Old Post Office, Merchandise Mart, great. But do we really need "The Shoreham" or "Cassidy on Canal"? So corny.

This is like that ongoing debate among car people. Is it better to give a car a number or alphanumeric name (911, 540i, F150) or a name (Taurus, Discovery)? My view is I don't care one way or the other. It's all about marketing. The people building this must think that prospective tenants or buyers if its a condo building will remember Cassidy on Canal better than 445 Canal or whatever it is.

Anyone knows who owns those huge surface lots at 603 W Monroe and 718 W Monroe in the West Loop Gate? Those would both be great sites for new super talls.

Real Deal interviewed Fulton St Cos. Not much new info other than potential construction in May

Quote:
Projects lined up to break ground potentially in May are a 39,000-square-foot, 433-unit project at 1201 West Fulton Market and a 530,000-square-foot Class A office and retail building at 917 West Fulton Market.

Maybe my mind is always in the gutter, but I read that as "Cassidy on anal"
...which maybe would be better *shrug*

Just came across this tweet from @ChiBuildings on Twitter saying a major developer is planning a 35-story office tower “downtown”.

Anyone aware of what this one could be?

Walked by 1400 S Wabash quickly today and snapped this right before the weather suddenly changed.
