METRO AREAS: Average Reported Income Per IRS Tax Return, 2020

This is different from Census Bureau estimates because this is actual reported data to the IRS.

I only counted MSAs with 300,000+ filed returns. Otherwise, Naples FL was notable at $183k but doesnt have 300,000+ returns.

Interesting to see Grand Rapids next to Honolulu GR’s been doing well for itself certainly I would have thought with Honolulu’s higher property values and cost of living it would rank higher due to needing more income to live there comfortably. Metro Detroit isn’t far behind either it’s good to see Metro Detroit near on par with GR there’s more wealth but more poverty as well. It’s a good sign for the overall economic health that overall they are close with the similar cost of living it shows a healthy regional economy good for the state overall too.

In my anecdotal experience, wages in Hawaii are terrible in comparison with other expensive places, even at the professional services level.
