KUALA LUMPUR (Jun 23): Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has given the assurance that its 265km rail network affected by the Klang Valley Double Tracking (KVDT) rehabilitation project is safe and can be used for passengers and freight train operations.

This, it said, is despite the fact that the second phase of the project (KVDT2) — involving two tracks between Salak South and Seremban, and between Kuala Lumpur Sentral and Port Klang — is still in the process of retendering by the Transport Ministry.

In a statement today, the national rail operator said it will continue with the infrastructure maintenance for the routes involved in KVDT2 on a weekly basis.

Prasarana appoints Jamaludin as chairman, Mohd Azharuddin as group CEO

KUALA LUMPUR (July 1): Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has appointed the chief transformation officer of Malaysia Airlines Bhd's Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah as the group’s president and chief executive officer (CEO).

Today’s announcement confirmed The Edge’s report last week (June 20) that Mohd Azharuddin could be appointed as the rail operator’s CEO, replacing Muhammad Nizam Alias who left under a cloud of controversy earlier this year.

At the same time, Prasarana also appointed former president and group CEO of Axiata Group Bhd Tan Sri Jamaluddin Ibrahim as its new group chairman, replacing Pasir Salak MP Tajudin Abdul Rahman.

Both appointments will take effect from July 15, Prasarana said in a statement.

Jamaludin spent 12 years as president and group CEO of Axiata, while Azharuddin was formerly the CEO of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) from 2015 to 2018.

Prasarana welcomed Jamaluddin and Azharuddin to its board, saying both figures have extensive experience in leading large companies in terms of operation and administration, as well as their involvement in formulating policies and initiatives for the public sector.

The rail operator also said Jamaludin’s appointment was in line with the government’s aspiration for the company to become more independent and increase its revenue — including non-fare revenue, and to develop into a successful government-owned corporate entity.

As for Azharuddin, Prasarana said his appointment would provide synergies from a public transport standpoint, due to his extensive experience in the land, air and public transport industry.

MRT3: MRT Corp receives over 40 submissions from major construction players

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) received over 40 submissions from major players of the construction industry in Malaysia under the request for information (RFI) exercise for the MRT3 Circle Line project.

MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim said the exercise, which began on April 9, was to enable the company to gauge the interest, capacity and capability of local players of construction industry in relation to the project.

"The information will also help MRT Corp in establishing the best structure for the project. We have engaged the players who participated in the RFI and we have provided them with feedback on the information given," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zarif said MRT Corp had received several private funding initiative (PFI) propositions for the project, following a briefing session in April.

"MRT Corp is still evaluating the merits of the PFI scheme. In view of this, MRT Corp needs to adjust the timeline for the tender process for the first package of the project and will announce the new date for the calling of the tender in the future," he said.
