More than the lights the volume of traffic, including commercial trucks, which used the route made for a dangerous situation when it was only two lanes. Moving to four lanes on a key route like that makes sense.

Ah yes Centre Port Way came up from the bowls of the sub-forum..lol..

All these points are valid. Lets merge the two threads, into a one stop destination
for this infrastructure work and the CentrePort Canada development in general...

Why is there a Global Transportation Hub in Regina? Doesn't that hinder the efforts of CentrePort in trying to get businesses to locate here? Maybe someone can provide some info on the differences/similarities between the two developments.

Everyone wants a piece of the cargo game. We had years and years to get this right, but welcome to Winnipeg.

Different attempts on the same concept. Edmonton and Calgary are in on the game too. Calgary's doesn't have a flashy brand, or even a set name, strategy, or coordinating authority I believe but seems to be winning, not really for any other reason than being better placed as a distribution centre, and consistent support for road and rail projects around the individual pieces.

A lot of the buzz early on for these in land ports was based on product localization (putting in different keyboards/manuals for the Canadian market was one example I remember hearing a lot of), so more than just logistics, into light manufacturing. As transportation got even cheaper, and product tracking got even better, the business case for nearer consumption localization kind of disappeared.

these cities may have highways that (1) aren't closed due to snow 3-5 days a year (2) have traffic lights in towns like Morris

They are on the ball, and act quicker; too much talk in Winnipeg and not enough action.

CentrePort is starting to gain some traction. They've finally got the water source thing sorted out. The rail yard is going ahead with an anchor tenant to get things started. Hopefully some of those large companies like Facebook and Amazon come back to the table. Some real missed opportunities there.

Amazon is already in Calgary, so to come to Winnipeg they would likely be splitting the distribution region. So possible if they keep pushing to reduce shipping times.

I'm for the merge.

I didn't mean necessarily mean Amazon themselves. But any/other large companies looking for a place to go.

And yes, good on the merge!

Amazon setting up a smaller distribution centre in Winnipeg would definitely make sense with their strategy. They could stage groceries and other high demand/same day delivery items there. Additional it could be used as a "release day" staging area for pre-orders.

Regina's GTH has basically turned into a white elephant whilst Winnipeg's CPC is actually gaining some traction.

A recent post in the GTH (Regina) thread claims that it has attracted significant infrastructure partners including Loblaws and CanadIan Pacific. In what way has it become a white elephant?

Because based on previous posts in the same thread, it sound like that is all the tenants they have, along with 2 or 3 others, that have set up shop there in almost 8 years. Not exactly impressive growth, at least in comparison to what we have at Centreport Canada.

Glad to hear that. I want to see Centreport be a success and less competition means better odds for that to happen.

It's been relatively quiet on the Centreport front. Any news?

Amazon says it has added $38 billion US to Seattle's economy since setting up shop there in 2016, but is looking for a second headquarters as it expands from its current 380,000 workers.

This, right now. Brian Bowman should get right on it. Anyone close to him should get him on this NOW:

While it is certainly worth throwing a hat into the ring for, this is a crazy-big-league offer from Amazon. Being able to attract and retain talent would be paramount I would think in such a massive expenditure of cash. I'm not sure that whatever considerable advantages the inland port offers would offset the difference Winnipeg might face on other fronts. I'd be thrilled of course, as anybody in nary any city would... but this is a fish that will be nearly impossible to catch.
