Fun fact: the name "99 cent pizza" does not fully describe the restaurant. In fact, for 99 cents, you can enjoy a piece of fried chicken (drumstick), a samosa, OR a greasy slice of pizza. 99 cent pizza is so much more than its name implies.

I have heard that particular restaurant chain likes to buy cheese from shoplifters. How else could they make the product so cheap? Just rumours...

I must admit that I have had a couple of their slices over the last few years and it is not too bad.

What's wrong with 99 cent pizza. You can by a large pizza for about 10 bucks. Not much different than 1 slice for 99 cents.

Pizza Hotline. Walk in x large 1 topping pizza. $7.99. That's a buck a slice.

Cineplex runs Cinema city. So unless they're closing that location I don't think it would be them. Maybe Landmark Cinemas, which is fantastic over at Grant Park.

The Garden City theater seemed to generate decent traffic before it closed. I would guess if it did a renovation to something like Grant Park it could be a going concern with just two screens. The big question is how much revenue would be needed to pay for the digital projection systems. Clearly other places can cover that per screen so no reason it couldn't work there.

This will no doubt attract the preferred clientele that many retailers and developers hoped for to get downtown back on track for our principal showcase avenue in the city and province.. Its not like panhandlers will think of hanging out there of course. Maybe a few more dollar stores as well?

If I get your idea right, I'd say I don't think a single 99¢ pizza store will hurt anything... it exists in many cities. Portage Avenue doesn't have to be full of stores like YSL, D&G and Prada

Not sure cineplex running cinema city necessarily rules them out. Cinema City mainly runs Bollywood movies with the occasional second run Hollywood flick. If they were running first run movies it could make sense. If not Cineplex, I wonder if it too will focus on Bollywood films.

That’s awesome they will be bringing back a cinema to garden city.
I love that cinema city northgate turned into a Bollywood theatre. I think it’s awesome that Winnipeg has a multiplex that’s pretty much devoted to showing Bollywood films.

99 cent pizza is a great fit there. There's not enough quick-n-dirty or open late spots to grab a bit in the area. It's a sign that they think life is there. People always rave about the "shitty" pizza joints in NYC, Chicago, Detroit etc... why is here somehow different?

Is there enough foot traffic there to support a pizza shop? Not a lot of night life. Not much residential. Seems a bit misplaced to me.

I noticed on twitter Bagelsmith says coming soon to downtown Winnipeg.

Plenty of new residential popping up in that area and it's a good move if they anticipate P&M opening up. It's close to what could become a popular pedestrian route between graham and the exchange. Every city worth its salt has quick and dirty food shacks in the thick of its downtown. People gotta eat!
