What if names like Larkin, Metlife, and Travelstead were synonymous with NYC?

The beautiful Travelstead Building blends into the fabric of Midtown Manhattan

Some of Midtown's most distinctive buildings from left to right: The Chrysler Building, Metlife Building, The Metlife North Tower, The Empire State Building, 15 Penn Plaza, and The Travelstead Building

The Travelstead Building has transformed the bedlam of Midtown East

Spot the Travelstead Building

The Travelstead Building can be seen even from the United Nations. To the right is Trump World Tower, and the far left is the beautiful Chrysler Building.

The Travelstead's crown can match any competitor even the General-Electric Building

The Travelstead Building is one of the greatest buildings to be built since the fabled Chrysler Building

An important part of NYC history, the Travelstead Building was built using air rights from Grand Central Station

A true architectural gem, the Travelstead Building is the definition of Post Modern done right, as it stands as the greatest Post Modern building in the city. It puts many others to shame!

A look up at the heavens and the peaceful yet outstanding Travelstead Building

Amazing. Hope something similar gets built since East Midtown is getting a huge rezoning and all. If I was a rich, famous architect or developer I would get all the great cancelled projects of NYC up and running again.

Interesting.

Curiours just what program you are using to create this version of NYC.
It would seem it allows you to create and place buildings of your own creation and whimsey... This has ...possibilities.

To begin with, seeing the Metropolitan Life Building made manifest shown to what it would have been. Well all I can say is YE GODS what a Monster!
You know how 'big' it was suppsoed to be , but you don't get a true feel for it's titanic size untill you see it lined up with the other buildings and see it casting a shadow over the ESB.

As for The Travelstead Building , I am guessing this is a product of your own design? Most interesting, similar to an art deco tower I have designed as well. It looks quite regal, though hard to get a feel for it. From your description the top must be planned to be tremendouslly sculpted if it is to compete with the glorious crown of the GE building.

Don't exactly agree with some of the other choics you have. Of course it is no small secret I don't exactly approve of most modern design...

If I had access to such a program, I would remake NYC at it's glorious height in the 40's adding in all of the great buildings we have lost, from Penn Station to the Singer building, to see how NYC COULD have looked had we avoided the Architectural Holocaust of the 60's and 70's.

^ No it's just simple Sketchup and Google Earth, no special program. You could thank Kohn, Penderson, Fox for the beautiful PM building. But you could thank me for sketching it and putting it in GE. As for the building (remember the greatest buildings ever destroyed/demolished), this was one of the greatest buildings never built. As you can tell it would've looked sooo much better.

Later Today

How about giving credit to the creator of the Larkin and MetLife North models?

^ I will ONCE I'm done with this ENTIRE thread. I still got a LONG way to go. Next I have to put the Hudson Yards into the picture, and (maybe 432 Park). Then once I'm done with Midtown, I have to do Downtown (which has ALOT, and I mean ALOT of never built buildings that were great). (After I finish this thread [I'll Credit] and start a thread for Chicago).

What if names like Larkin, Metlife, and Travelstead were synonymous with NYC?

The Travelstead Building isn't just another building in the steep concrete jungle, but it's a special building

270 Park Ave to the left of its neighbor the Travelstead Building

The Travelstead Building's reflection on the blue/green facade of 270 Park Ave

Looking up at one of the most shiny and eye-catching buildings to be built in the last twenty five years

One beautiful Chrysler crown behind another beautiful Helmsley crown to the left of the unparalleled Travelstead

The Travelstead unmistakable in its presence on the skyline, even when surrounded by Art-Deco masterpieces

The beautiful Mercantile Building, one of the classical Pre-War buildings is proud of the Travelstead Building representing the city

The low key 101 Park Ave, dwarfed by the many giants of the city, like the Travelstead Building 5 blocks north

The Travelstead Building can put about any building in the foreground to shame except maybe the Chrysler and Chanin Buildings

The ever beautiful Travelstead Building between 277 (L) and 270 Park (R) Ave

The Travelstead Building is so good, that you could go on all day about it

So, you give credit after a year or so? Sorry but that's not how it's done...

From what I can make out, The big fruit is utilizing a mix of Google Earth and Google Sketch Up to make some sort of Ideal Fantasy NYC populated by a mix of buildings he wished had been built and ones that were going to be built but weren't'

Which is rather interesting and commendable. FSM knows if I knew how to utilize those I would be populating NYC with all the buildings lost during the 60's and 70's.

The problem is we do not know what, if any buildings he himself has created on his own, and which ones he is "borrowing" from others.

So...you're dedicating a thread to a building that was never built (and already has its own thread here) and calling it the best postmodern building in the city?

Epic something.

The dazzling Travelstead ever more dazzling as seen from Times Square

The Travelstead Building lurking behind the many masts of St Patrick's Cathedral

780 Third Ave provides a stunning contrast to the Travelstead and Chrysler Buildings

From l to r: 488 Madison Ave, Metlife Building, 444 Madison Ave, Travelstead Building, Swiss Bank Tower, and the Olympic Tower. St Patrick's cathedral seen below

The Travelstead Building as seen through the International Building and the G.E Building

The Travelstead matches the glitz of any 5th Ave low-rise

The Travelstead Building has set the precedent for how to build Post Modern

The ever lovely view from the Top of the Rock

Travelstead, Helmsley, and Metlife form a peculiar conjunction

The greatest Post Modern building is the second tallest building on Madison Ave. The tallest building on Madison Ave is seen to the right of the Travelstead
