Donald Trump is one of the most repulsive characters in our current age. I'd enjoy seeing a sinkhole swallow him up on one of his own golf courses.

I wonder if the bridge will have significant delays like other big projects.

President Obama to make a speech on Wednesday at the bridge! Will be touting the $1.6B federal fund approval he signed late last year to help bridge construction costs.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/poli...icle-1.1787608

WASHINGTON — "President Obama will visit the Tappan Zee Bridge on Wednesday to deliver a speech calling for more federal spending on bridges and other infrastructure projects, a White House official said Saturday.

Obama will tout his administration’s approval of a record $1.6 billion federal loan to help finance a replacement for the Tappan Zee, and he will call on Republicans to end their opposition to his proposals for more infrastructure spending.

The President will also highlight efforts by the administration to cut through red tape and modernize the federal infrastructure permitting process, and reduce project approval time lines,” the White House official said."

it's about time Mr Obama. ...without the proper amount of funding infrastructure suffers and with it the economy......thanks for the injection of more money to help remedy the problem.....

That bridge contributes to sprawl and air pollution. Why should we be excited about that? When another Sandy hits you can thank whomever wanted this bridge (not pointing fingers ),

Most of trips made by people that use the Tappen Zee don't end up in the central business districts of Manhattan Island fyi.

so because most people that use it don't go to midtown or downtown Manhattan its a waste of time and money?

But you are right about one thing, Bridges cause Hurricanes.

^^ so true.

Anyway its funny how this bridge got funded so quickly compared to other projects. And you think those that claim to care about the environment would do something about this...

He called it the "Zappen Tee"!

The only thing about which you are remotely correct is the fact that, for the most part, passengers who utilize this bridge aren't downtown commuters. This is primarily a conduit for residents of Bergen, Rockland, Fairfield, Westchester and Bronx counties. The new bridge isn't promoting sprawl. Sprawl has happened. The new bridge is being built because the old one is extraordinarily unsafe, and those 4.6 million people need to stay connected.

But you're right, make 'em swim!

Did you look at the post #96? That is where I got the info from and the Captain Transit blog. Really excellent info.
Fun fact: The bridge is "functionally obsolete" not falling apart in pieces.

Also its understandable that a suburbanite would get defensive when it comes to "their" bridge. No surprise there

The article you linked is ridiculous. And this coming from an adamant transit advocate. As the article states, most commuters who use this bridge are not heading towards manhattan. They are heading else where, and in case you forgot, mass transit, especially outside of the city limits, is focused on getting people to Manhattan. There is no mass transit infrastructure in place to replace the bridge. The reason why this project was funded so quickly in comparison to other projects is that not only is the bridge solely the responsibility of NY state, it is all falling apart at an alarming rate. The other trans-Hudson projects are a joint effort with NJ, and it is usually NJ that puts an end to things, not NY.

Thus the deteriorating concrete, which falls off the bridge in chunks, sometimes creating holes in the roadway through which the river below can be seen. Forty-five such “punch-throughs” were recorded in the eighteen months prior to a 2009 engineering assessment of the bridge, which estimated that nearly 60 percent of the deck needed to be replaced. The state has spent $750 million over the past decade on maintenance and estimates it would cost around $100 million a year to keep it operating in the absence of a replacement.
Literally falling apart in pieces.
