For those complaining about rail, I suspect, among other things, that any Metro-North expansion into Rockland: (i) isn't economically justifiable since the total commuters from Rockland is probably pretty small; and (ii) it would probably be cheaper for any rail extension to travel on the west side of the river and cross into Manhattan from NJ. The location of the Tappan Zee/Cuomo Bridge is one of the widest points of the Hudson.

Anyway, lots of Rocklanders who choose to take mass transit drive into Tarrytown and take the Hudson Line from there, or they go to Nanuet, which I believe lets them off at Seacaucus or Penn Stn.

I'm assuming you mean the Tappan Zee, err Mario Cuomo?

Path

Path

It's too bad they couldn't have a continuous embedded LED light strip in those walls instead of those dopey highway style overhead lights screwing up the look.

Pedestrian path on Mario M. Cuomo Bridge opens with public art, scenic overlooks, & food vendors

JUNE 15, 2020
BY DEVIN GANNON

Quote:
The pedestrian-bike path on the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge officially opened to the public on Monday. The 3.6-mile shared path serves as the “gateway to the Hudson Valley,” connecting Westchester and Rockland Counties, and is one of the longest of its kind in the country, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The path features six different scenic overlooks, 10 public art pieces, and three local food trucks.

“The new Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge is an iconic gateway to the Hudson Valley and a statewide landmark that celebrates the spirit of New York,” Cuomo said in a press release.

“The addition of this state-of-the-art bike and pedestrian path will provide New Yorkers and tourists alike with more ways to cross the river, as well as updated amenities and a unique, interactive experience to enjoy while taking in the scenic views of the Hudson River Valley.”

The path features separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists traveling in both directions. It takes about 80 minutes to walk and 20 minutes to bike across the path, which will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

it really stinks that the path isn't on the side with a view of the Palisades and the Manhattan skyline. Maybe i'm conceited from crossing the bridge so many times, but I don't find anything special in the view northward. There's no landmarks other than the light house.

To each his own, I suppose. But as someone who spends most of the time in the City, I much prefer the river and north country view. Plenty of other bridges to get city views. I'll be walking across, but maybe not until it gets a little cooler again. We shall see.

I wonder if they would ever consider a walkway on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. One of those bridges that if your a passenger in a vehicle, going from Brooklyn to Staten Island, and are on the far right lane (Upper level), your greeted to an amazing view, especially on a clear day. One of those moments where standstill traffic is a good thing.

Just food for fantasy, although I doubt it, because folks jump off that bridge. You'll see the signs posted, and telephones if you look carefully. Lots of suicides on that bridge unfortunately.

Community groups have been pushing this for years, and the Port Authority keeps delaying.

Yeah, the VN Bridge definitely needs a walkway/bikeway.
