Installing a second crane at what looks to be the core of the tower.

What is the large excavation and apparent foundation next to the site of the second crane? This appear to be very large and deep and full of rebar. Is there a special or needed purpose for this structure?

Pretty sure that's the core of the tower.

Could be, but it does not appear as big as the full footprint of the building. Perhaps it is just the elevator shafts and the ballroom floors as a core for support. In any case an interesting looking structure.

This core will be built like the IBM tower and the core of thyssenkrupp, going up very fast and the floors follow.

That is one massive footing they poured today, resting on 18 large-diameter piers drilled down to bedrock. The pour kept two pumper trucks busy for over 19 hours, from midnight until about 7:30 PM. Construction cameras are great - and thanks to smArTaLlone's links, they are easy to find and follow.

Anybody know why they don't want to connect Andrew Young Int'l and Magnolia Street? There have been several opportunites to do this in the last few years and the developers seem to be averse to the idea.

I doubt the Georgia World Congress Authority wants any through traffic on their campus. They also have the ability to close off that road as they please at the moment when they have a special event. There is also the severe grade separation issue which would make it difficult connecting the streets.
