Regardless this looks to be pretty good👊
There’s currently a cluster of skyscrapers there, but all will likely be dwarfed by the towers of the Port Authority redevelopment. Silverstein’s project is also just up the street.

Agreed, my sentiments exactly, definitely a lack of foresight when the 7 train was extended.

New Renderings Revealed For 550 Tenth Avenue In Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

Quote:
YIMBY has an exclusive set of new renderings for a 47-story residential skyscraper at 550 Tenth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Gotham Organization and Goldman Sachs Asset Management JV, the 430,000-square-foot tower will yield 453 units with 316 at market rate and 137 for moderate and middle incomes, as well as 9,000 square feet of retail space, over 20,000 square feet of amenities, and 26,764 square feet of administrative office space for Covenant House. Demolition is complete and foundations are underway at the site, which is located along Tenth Avenue between West 40th and 41st Streets.

Renderings by ATCHAIN show a glass and earth-toned metal curtain wall. Above the podium, the massing incorporates a shallow southern and deeper northern setback, and another below the roof parapet. We could expect vertical progress to proceed fairly rapidly given the relative consistency of the floor plates in the majority of the tower.

The site is a short walk from a number of subway lines including the A, C, and E trains at the 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal Station, which offers a connection to the 42nd Street-Times Square Station servicing the 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, W, and Shuttle to Grand Central Station. Also nearby is the 7 train at the 34th Street-Hudson Station.

550 Tenth Avenue is targeting a completion date at the end of 2024 or early 2025.

Not bad! Can't say the same thing for how the Yotel entrance across the street has aged. What is that, like, 5 years old? It looks like it was built in the mid-60's. And that is not in a complimentary, retro-cool way. It looks like some mod 60's design that has outlived it's heyday.

I've done some engineering doc sleuthing since I last posted and have discovered there is in fact an MTA station entrance easement built into the guidelines for this lot so at least a shell will be built during foundation construction and preserved for the future 41/Tenth station. Interestingly enough theres also an easement thats been built into the newish 555 Tenth tower across the street which might explain why that northeastern corner has the pulled back storefront which I'm assuming will accommodate the future stair, elevator or both for the infill station.

This may very well be the fastest demolition/construction I have ever seen.
The old building was still standing there in april of last year.

So far, so good on the cladding. And a nice contrast with all of the blue glass boxes that have gone up in the area over the last 7 years.

5 injured when NYC crane collapses into building after catching fire near Manhattan’s Hudson Yards

By Joe Marino and Amanda Woods
July 26, 2023

Five people were injured, including a firefighter, when a crane collapsed into a neighboring building after catching fire in New York City on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The crane was operating on 570 10th Avenue — an under-construction, vacant building near Hudson Yards, between West 41st and West 42nd Streets — when the cabin area suddenly caught fire around 7:30 a.m., the NYPD said.

The top portion collapsed, striking a building across the street before crashing onto the ground below, according to cops and the footage.
