Lisbon, OH

Lisbon is a village in eastern Ohio, and is the seat of Columbiana County. The population is around 3,000.

Lisbon was founded in 1803, and is the second-oldest settlement in Ohio. The town saw growth from being on the Sandy & Beaver Canal, which was completed in 1848. Lisbon prospered under the early Industrial Revolution, with iron ore excavation and carriage-making being dominant industries. During this time, President William McKinley spent some of his childhood here.

By the late 1800s, the economy in Lisbon stagnated, as industries grew farther north in northeast Ohio. Today, the area around Lisbon is still relatively rural and agricultural, much like it has been for the last 100 years.

Some nice old buildings and houses, but that giant flag covering like 1/3 of the front of the house is kinda weird. Is it normal for so many people to have flag in front of the house, or is it just because the street is named Lincoln Way? I think it's weird, or maybe I just never noticed it before.

That Subway with the curved corner is really unique. Love this town’s old architecture.

Nice pictures!

I'm wondering how the town got its name...

I was born and raised in Ohio, and I've never heard of Lisbon! There are just so many little towns like this scattered around the state. Thanks for sharing!

These photos look like they were taken around Memorial Day (that's my guess, anyway). There's flags in a lot of the photos. Look at the banners in the downtown commercial areas. Or else Lisbon is just really patriotic.

Great little place - thanks for sharing!

Just down the road from my hometown, which also used to be a small but thriving place but not the case anymore.

there is nothing weird about it. its probably up for a holiday like 4th of july. lots of large, older or historic places seem to do that. now if it was up all the time that would be weird!

Wow, a Fox's Pizza Den in a town not located in Northwestern PA. ))

The Lincoln Hwy through Pennsylvania is a route that should be celebrated much more than it is, but glad it isn't. Eastern OH, including Lisbon, is a great stretch too, through Canton, Massillon, Wooster, and Mansfield, but flattens out beyond that.

On a side note, I heard the nearby Rogers flea mkt burnt down some time ago, and wonder if it has been rebuilt.

Regarding Rogers - it was just one of the pavilions, and yes they are still in business - my parents have been selling antique and collectible books there for years.

Happy to hear the "info" I heard about Rogers was highly exaggerated. Thanks for sharing.

These pictures were taken in late July, for those trying to figure out why there were flags up everywhere.

The design of this building seems unusual, with the upper story windows being larger than the lower floor.
