Metro-North To Slash Parking Rates in West of Hudson Territory Parking Fee Savings Make Metro-North Railroad Even More Attractive

July 29th, 2014

Quote:
Starting this fall, MTA Metro-North Railroad will slash parking fees at its West-of-Hudson stations to lower the cost of commuting and make the railroad an even better commuting option for residents of Orange and Rockland counties.

The one-year pilot program, announced at Monday's MTA Board meeting, will offer a “12 for 1” annual parking permit, with 12 months of parking available for the cost of just one month – a 91% reduction. This reduces the cost of annual parking from $235 to just $20.

Daily meter parking fees also will be reduced by 55% from $2.75 a day to $1.25 a day. The reductions are included in the revised 2015 budget presented to the MTA Board for approval today.

“We expect this move will encourage new customers in Orange and Rockland counties to try our reliable and comfortable train service,” said Prendergast. “Metro-North service is an important asset for these fast-growing portions of our service area, and we are pleased to be able to offer these enhancements for our current and future customers there.”

“Metro-North is the most efficient and convenient way to get to Manhattan, and this change will save our customers money while also making commuting by train even more attractive,” said Giulietti. “This demonstrates our commitment to Orange and Rockland counties and to the many people there who can and do benefit from taking Metro-North to work and back.

That's funny. What is heck going on there? He took wrong platform. He didn't do right. He had to do right platform to pick the passengers up. He can't be leave behind. That's big mistake. He have to be careful.

$4.9 Million in Enhancements Planned for Routes in All Five New York City Boroughs

Quote:
New routes, extensions and stops are among the bus enhancements customers will get to use on Sunday, August 31. One example will be the M12 route on the Far West Side of Manhattan to meet a demand for public transportation in an area of Manhattan that has experienced significant residential and commercial growth.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) works with communities to provide affordable public transportation options to neighborhoods with growing transit needs. The extension of the Bx24 to the Hutchinson Metro Center in the Bronx is an example of how New York City Transit (NYCT) works with residents, businesses and elected officials to address a need as well as to increase service on a route with potential ridership growth.

B13, B83, Q8 extensions

All three routes will be extended to a new bus terminal at Gateway Center II (Gateway Center North) in the Spring Creek area of Brooklyn.

Bx24 extension

The route will be extended from Westchester Square to the end of Marconi Street by the 911 Call Center in the Hutchinson Metro Center. The extension adds four eastbound stops and four westbound at the Metro Center.

M12

The new service will accommodate customers along 11th and 12th Avenues between Abington Square in the West Village and Columbus Circle, an area that has been developing rapidly. The northern terminal will be on West 58th Street at Broadway. The southern terminal will be on Eighth Avenue at Jane Street.

City Pushing For Waterfront Development Near Metro-North Stations

By Eddie Small on August 28, 2014 8:37am

Quote:
BRONX — The Department of City Planning would like to see waterfront development come to the areas around some Metro-North stations as part of a plan to foster economic growth and accommodate a booming population in the borough, according to a new report.

In the study, which focused on improving underused areas around the stations as well as better integrating them into the community, the department advocated redeveloping the waterfront by the University Heights and Morris Heights stations to help people more easily reach the Harlem River.

Many of the Metro-North stations in the Bronx have underutilized areas around them or are next to recreational areas that are cut off from the rest of the community by highways and other obstructions. They also are underutilized despite being in densely populated areas, compared to the subway, the report said.

[...]

Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. has called for the creation of a new district along the Harlem River between 138th and 149th streets that would be comparable to Brooklyn Bridge Park, and work is underway on a bike and pedestrian pathway that would connect the South Bronx to Randall's Island.

The pathway is part of the South Bronx Greenway, a project meant to help connect the Hunts Point peninsula and the waterfront.

Allowing better access to the river could open up more opportunities for businesses and recreation by the waterfront, according to city planning Bronx Borough Director Carol Samol.
