Idk how or why I would post anything like this back then.
I must've gone too excited at some fake business news as it sometimes occurs.

Fact is the EU authorities rejected the idea of such a merging and consolidation, just very recently.
It's pissing us French and Germans off, but the EU is obsessed with their continental competition policy, and the Spanish, the British, the Italians and so on are scared of a potential monopoly (thus higher prices to pay for their own local trains).

They didn't realize China is seriously showing up to the industry yet. France and Germany are already aware, that's how we know there wouldn't be any monopoly anyway.
Market is just really global today, but some can't get it yet.

Anyway, now they all know neither the Germans nor the French rule the EU on their own, or the merging would've been approved.
And it's actually super annoying it wasn't.

Every other city in Canada, Australia, The US: say what now, how.... is this happening so fast?

Montréal: well, we're not here to f**k spiders.

Public planners must cry at night to see such results from the private sector. Also 40km+ of REM lines are being studied with propositions to build in less than two years.

Map of proposed expansion by CAQ from the last provincial election:

The extensions in Laval appear to make sense especially the one N-S on Hwy 15. Not much transit goes E-W along Hwy 440, but this could capture new transit riders and make Hwy 440 the backbone of Laval transit.

The south shore REM extensions make me think of the HART (in Honolulu) stations and elevated guideway through farmer's fields (they have good reasons to extend automated un-piloted transit here ); https://www.roadsbridges.com/no-4-ho...ransit-project . The capital expense could fund a bus every 10 minutes, 7 days a week for 15 hours per day for how long? Election vote buying.

The tramways should be done as well. Speed up the Bleu Ligne to Anjou timeline.
Transit grid FTW. Montreal would have fantastic transportation choices/options in 2030 if all but the south shore REM was operating.

The Island of Montréal tram line might be REM, the delegated minister of transportation said they would look into it.

Same type as Sydney MEtro's new fleet - except the Sydney Metro sets will be 6 car (2xM+4xT I presume) trains from the outset, with the possibility of extending them to 8-cars.

here they are on test, the system is weeks away from opening for passengers

There's a first REM capsule which goes into explaining the Édouard-Montpetit connecting station. There are English subtitles.

They've kind hinted at it being a tribute of sorts to the original Red Line by calling it Line 'R' though it only covers part of what Line 3 was going to cover (no service to Cartierville etc)

October REM photos up on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/REMgrandmtl...04741619891999

Lots of work still to do for opening stage 1 REM in 2021.

Impressive how this advances compared to current and recent transit projects. I echo the comments that'd it make sense to extend it 700m to the Dorval train station.

I am sure there is pent up demand for rail access to PET airport from Cornwall, Ottawa and maybe even Kingston.

The REM's east and northeast expansion project is apparently a go and will be announced tomorrow by Quebec Premier François Legault, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante and CDPQ (Quebec Deposit and Investment Fund, a pension plan manager for Quebec's public sector).

The REM2 will have about 20 stations and two branches that will connect the city centre to Pointe-aux-Trembles and Montréal-Nord (pretty much as illustrated on the map a few posts above).

The city center segment will be aerial, on boulevard René-Lévesque.

The REM2 will follow René-Lévesque boulevard, Notre-Dame and then split in two branches:

- the Pointe-aux-Trembles (PAT) branch will follow Souligny and then continue on Sherbrooke towards PAT with an aerial structure.
- the North Branch will go up Dickson / Lacordaire, will have a station near Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and will then dive underground and go to Montréal-Nord / Rivière-des-Prairies, with a terminus near Cégep Marie-Victorin.

The aesthetics of this aerial structure on René-Lévesque, right in the middle of the city centre, would be an essential element of the project and would possibly be the subject of an international invitation to tender for the architectural aspect.

Aerial structure? Where are you seeing that? The map in your link shows REM2 as tramway (which probably makes the most sense imo).

It was mentioned by Bernard Drainville, the journalist who had the scoop on this story. It will be a light metro, not a tramway.

We’ll have the details tomorrow at the press conference.
