So did site prep start on this? And is this going to be a phased approach (with the American Water building going first) or will we see everything going up relatively close to one another?

Waterfront project sees delay over restricted view

http://www.courierpostonline.com/sto...ment/91335500/

There is a video to watch.

Quote:
To protect that view, the easement restricts development on a Waterfront site called Parcel 2 to buildings between 45 and 54 feet high, depending on the distance from the Victor Building, the EDA said.

Liberty Property wants to put a 328-foot-high tower on Parcel 2 as part of 1.5 million square feet of office space. The firm also plans stores, a hotel and 211 homes on parking lots south of the Ben Franklin Bridge.

A Liberty Property representative could not be reached for comment Friday.

The project announced its first major tenant in July, when American Water Works Co. of Voorhees said it would move 600-plus jobs there by June 2019. The EDA has approved $164 million in tax incentives to help finance the utility firm's move to a planned five-story building on the Waterfront.

Soon this project is just going to disappear altogether. It already shrunk and uglified itself to the point where I'm not all that interested, now people are arguing over views.

The Victor building looks like it's about 2 football fields length from the water...so whoever agreed to this was really desperate to get something built. Those are some massive parking lots on some prime real estate, enjoy them Camden.

Easy solution: Move the project north of the bridge where the prison once stood.

Everybody wins

I think he has a piece of the liberty project too, to develop an apt building. Gotta be more to the story.

Right, forgot about that. Wonder what the deal is then.

I hate to say it, but you may be right. It's starting to look that way.

Shame they just can't build this across the river (original rendering/design). Sell the parcel, and start fresh. The design is nice, but put it across the river, and call it a day.

In its original form, that design would look stunning in Boston along the river. Actually, I think Boston would pull it off a little better IMO.

I was driving over the bridge today and noticed that there were a couple of dump trucks and an excavator on the prison site, north of the bridge. I couldn't tell what they were doing, but I'm thinking maybe leveling the surface?

About half of that prison parcel is now parking, and it was pretty full. I'm guessing it's overflow parking for Rutgers.

The parking lot that phase one of this project is going in on is now closed. It was also the parking lot for Rutgers students so they have been moved north of the bridge.

I like your thinking (sans Boston talk). Put it on Penn's Landing where it actually has a shot at being built. I honestly think this whole rendering was just pork barrel spending on NJ's part. That's unfortunate because it could do a lot for Camden.

The new Subaru North American HQ is pretty much completely framed out in steel on Admiral Wilson Blvd. in front of the Campbell Soup World HQ.

Something's going to get built here. AmericanWater already committed to anchor the center building, and the project is state-backed, etc... It just won't resemble the original renderings (fantasy for this spot). A shame. Very impressive buildings. I, too, hope they can be appropriated and built somewhere else.

I agree. I just threw Boston in there because this design is one that was made for a river view.

But yes... Penn's Landing would be ideal. Would complement the area very well, and have a good chance of being built.

Take the parking away, add some retail, give it a mixed used title, and it would sport Philly very well. I think a small marina to spice things up could work. The height itself is not extravagant for Penn's Landing either so it won't stick out like a sore thumb.

Hotel proposed for Camden Waterfront
The Courier-Post 8:03 p.m. EDT October 24, 2016

http://www.courierpostonline.com/sto...ment/92683288/

Quote:
"We're moving forward with it now," developer Louis Cicalese said Monday of the planned eight-story, 180-room Hilton Garden Inn, which is expected to rise on a half-acre parking lot near Campbell's Field.

The 116,100-square-foot project would be part of a $1 billion mixed-use complex overseen by Liberty Property Trust of Malvern, Pennsylvania. That project also calls for 1.5 million square feet of office space, retail outlets and 211 homes.

Camden's planning board is to consider the hotel proposal at its Nov. 2 meeting.

Cicalese said construction could begin by late summer or early fall of 2017, for completion by November 2018. The Ottsville, Pennsylvania, businessman put a price tag of about $50 million on the project.
