More modern day Commie Blocks to welcome people to Canada's Capital as they come in from the Airport.

This Bank st. road redevelopment between Riverside and Kitchener has been a couple of years away for the last 10+ years. I was excited about it when I moved into the area 12 years ago and have been waiting for it ever since.

Yeah it's been chugging along. It's a big project, so it was in detail design for a while.

Agreed! Seems to be the in-thing nowadays. If you're not using greys & charcoals, you're just not with the times.

Oh Really? interesting, where did you find this info? On the City of ottawa website for the project there is no clear start date for the project;

Construction start to be determined. Construction timelines will be dependent on future budget approval and coordination with other infrastructure projects across the City. The construction phase of this project will occur over multiple years.

The above timelines are estimated and may change as the project progresses. Additional public information sessions will be scheduled and held throughout the design process. Residents will be notified of these events.

"A stunning new 362 unit apartment building in the heart of Ottawa South, just steps from the new Walkey LRT station."

Stunning is definitely one way to describe this building.

Was biking along the pathway today and got to take a really good look at these.

From this angle I'm really warming up to it. More light grey than charcoal. A good amount of glazing and balconies. I like! I can't say the same from the beer store parking lot on the other side though.

These corner windows are quite hilarious in comparison.

This building definitely had some potential. We got 2 nice facades out of 8.

"They paved paradise,
and put up a charcoal block." - Joni Mitchell

In this case, paradise being a shopping cart homeless encampment by the train tracks behind a beer store.

I'd agree, it's added density near LRT station and replacing an empty field before, so that's a plus.

But I wish they would've replicated the round window corner on the first tower as well and/or simply added more/bigger windows in the corners of both towers. That alone could've saved the design a bit.

Not a masterpiece, but it's decent, it's TOD, and its site plan includes the provision of a pedestrian link between the O-Train and the Starbucks/Swiss Chalet pathway.

This will link up to the new traffic signals to be installed at Notting Hill with the Bank St rebuild, creating a new link to the transit station.

Close-up views from inside the site, and a panorama from the top looking West.

Nice! I own a condo in the building just in front of this, top floor looking North/West. That view was definitely a selling point (downtown, Gatineau hills and the best sunsets over the Trillium line).

Those balconies on the middle podium that meet the tower at 90 degrees. Assuming they are separate units and bedroom windows... little close for comfort eh?
