I wouldn't want much of the new construction to be single family homes but Broad Street in South Philadelphia historically and currently is dominated by large row homes so I wouldn't necessarily say that they don't below.

It shocks me that someone would want to pay that much to have their front door on Broad and Fitzwater but as long as we still have empty lots, Rite Aid, Popeyes, Dunkin and a gas station on this stretch of Broad Street, it's a great upgrade.

Lots of things were done historically that shouldn't be done now. And yes further south on Broad it's mostly large rowhomes but most of those rowhomes have been broken up into apartments. Although I would still prefer something denser and taller a 4/5 story 6 or 8 unit building is better than a single family.

I think those row homes are pimp and I would totally live in one.

There's still too much vacancy on Broad to be lamenting half a block of very very upscale rowhomes.

That was my exact reaction too. $1.7M for a rowhome in that location definitely caught me by surprise. I think in an ideal world Broad would be lined with several hundred foot tall buildings from city hall to Washington Ave but with the current state of those lots, I’ll take what we can get.

Hey just a quick update via Tamburri Steel, This project will be anchored by a giant Heirloom Market. This will be a great addition to South Philly and much needed.

A full Giant store (65,000sf). Heirlooms are the smaller format stores.

Philadelphia is going through a grocery store renaissance.

Im almost sure Giant isnt taking the full 65000sf. The post says

65,000 sq. ft of retail, including a Giant Supermarket.
That being said this is only phase 1 of 1001 S.Broad so it would appear this giant will be a smaller format to compete with sprouts/target/Acme. I agree, one of my biggest gripes with Philly is the lack of accessible, quality, grocery options. Even Society Hill barely has one gorcery store, thats shameful!!!!
