Austin has way more and bigger projects happening, even Boston has multiple 500ft+ towers happening right now. But Boston is placed last on the list? You're obviously not near #2 in skyscraper construction. That's not like a diss at Atlanta or anything, it's just looking at the truth.

You said you looked and "didn't find anything". Other poster said he was just here and "didn't see much of anything". We know anti-Atlanta bias when we see it. We're used to it.

If you’re going off the SSP database then you’re likely using outdated/inaccurate data. It only lists Chicago as having 4 under construction lol

The US numbers are from the video and the Canadian numbers are from SSP.

So people did a basic level of research on a casual topic and you're convinced this is evidence of an "Atlanta bias".

Regarding the list, just 2 reminders. First, the list is from a full year and a half ago and a lot has changed since then. Second, regardless of total skyscrapers, they are only counting the combined total of skyscrapers and highrises and there is a much lower threshold for highrises.

Atlanta needs more filler for sure, so it's good to see so much happening. However, from a pure skyline perspective, if it isn't cracking this list below then it really isn't adding anything visually. Atlanta's skyline is stale because its top 16 buildings, in a relatively top-heavy skyline, are all 13+ years old. (showing 14 below, but 15 and 16 respectively are from 1985 and 2007)

There's this company called Rider Levett Bucknall that counts cranes and almost any internet search about cranes will cite their numbers. They report on cities in which they have offices. Surprise! They don't have offices in Atlanta...they don't have offices in Houston either...so guess which cities never show up on their lists, which, in my most recent search a few minutes ago, nearly every source cited. To wit:

"The crane index does have its limitations. Because it tracks cities where Rider Levett Bucknall has offices, it misses growing markets like Houston and Atlanta."

I don't have a dog in this fight but an easy way to settle this would be to post a recent photo of downtown Atlanta that readily displays either the presence of tower cranes in every direction, or the absence of tower cranes in every direction.

Well, actually, that wouldn't be best, because the most, by far, are in Midtown. There are about 6 or so downtown...20 or more in Midtown...four or five in west midtown, 8 to 10 in Buckhead, hell, there are four in DeKalb County, not counting Perimeter Center...Cobb County or Gwinnett? who knows, I'm never up those ways.

There are few markets in the country right now with as many tower cranes as Atlanta. I've been in Atlanta since the mid 70's, there's more underway right now than there ever has been.

Just take a Google tour down Peachtree from the northern edge of Buckhead on through Midtown (a distance of a few miles) and prepare to have your assumptions challenged. The changes to the Atlanta skyline are amazing, and this little tour won't even take you all the way downtown. No doubt the Googlemobile images are a bit dated, but the Atlanta sub-forum here on SSP is chock full of images for new construction all over Atlanta. Maybe there aren't a lot of really tall buildings going up right now, but the amount of infill construction and 15 to 30 story towers going up is really very remarkable. I count 42 highrises (12+) underway in the Seattle area (informal count)...

28 in Seattle (24 in greater Downtown, 4 in U District)
13 in Bellevue (11 Downtown, 2 in Bel-Red)
1 at an Indian casino near Auburn

Putting aside bias, there are probably two issues here.

First, everyone has a different definition of highrise/skyscraper. Yeah, there are business rules for different sources, but it's an issue. And even if we accept rules, how do we weight the entries? If the cutoff is say 10 floors, certainly we'd agree that a 10 floor building isn't weighted the same as a 100 floor building, right?

Second, it appears that much of the Atlanta construction activity isn't in the core, so may be less obvious to visitors, skyline watchers and the like. Downtown, at least, I'm pretty confident that as of August 2022, there's no forest of cranes, or wildly unusual construction activity. It may be that there's heavy construction activity in Buckhead, Perimeter and the like.

Bellevue is seriously punching above its weight, 2 600 FT towers U/C and multiple 600 FT tower groundbreakings soon is an achievement many American cities can't claim, especially for Bellevue's size.

Big towers make the biggest noise on sites like SSP.

It looks like Atlanta has been building a good amount of 20 and 30 story stuff lately, much to the excitement of the locals.

But it's been awhile since anything over 200m has been built in Atlanta, so outsider scraper-nerds aren't really paying as much attention to it as they are to an upstart city like Austin which now has a handful of 200m+ towers under construction, including a 300m+ one!
