Not to get technical; however, how far down is the bedrock under Miami? Given how soft the ground is coupled with all the hurricanes, one would have the think this building will have to be very firmly anchored. Even the way the top portion isn't balanced in weight with the rest of the buildings makes me nervous. Although it's solidly engineered, it's still worth wondering. Either way, am very glad to see this with a solid plan to move forward.

There are very few cities ugly enough to make this building look good, but Miami happens to be one of those cities. So congratulations are in order!

It's not great, not a fan on the lopsided top but it does have its charm. It's about time Miami built a 300+ meter building.

BIG's proposal actually looks better IMO, but that's not saying much. (it still would have been a bad choice for the WTC complex)

I agree. I loved BIG's tower for the WTC. I really like the Waldorf too.

Moscow has a mixed used tower like that.
https://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=24262

Given the hurricane risk and global warming issues for Miami, I think that tower is an extremely risky building.

New buildings withstand hurricanes, sometimes better than most houses out there. If Miami goes underwater, so will many cities along the coast as it wont be localized to Florida.

This is a good thing until homes in Miami suddenly cost $800k. Then you realize the devil you've unleashed.

The pie chart on page 9 of this budget would be a lot smaller had it not been for all these new 800k residences generating property tax revenues to pay for public services.

Again, some would prefer this, where the homes are cheap!

100-Story Waldorf Astoria To Begin Sitework In Q4 2021
https://www.thenextmiami.com/100-sto...rk-in-q4-2021/

Quote:
Miami’s 100-story Waldorf Astoria tower is enjoying strong sales and will soon begin sitework.
According to a social media post from developer PMG, groundwork is now expected to begin the fourth quarter of 2021.
The tower is “selling out fast,” the developer added, in a post that recapped third quarter achievements.

Records show that a demolition permit for the site is now moving through the approval process, after being submitted in June. The BG Group is listed as the contractor.
There does not yet appear to be a construction permit pending.
PMG has previously said they expected to break ground in the first quarter of 2022.

Waldorf Astoria Supertall Submitted For UDRB Review (100 floors btw )
https://www.thenextmiami.com/waldorf...r-udrb-review/

Quote:
Plans for the Waldorf Astoria supertall tower in downtown Miami have been submitted to the city for review.
The Waldorf Astoria is set to become the tallest building ever constructed in Miami.
Condo sales began earlier this year, and are said to be strong. Site work is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The tower will have 100 stories and will rise 1,049 feet.

Sieger Suarez is the architect of record.

The Waldorf plans are set to be heard by the Urban Development Review Board at a meeting scheduled for October 20.

so who is going to want to live in those condos right underneath the overhang where you'll be in shadow most of the day?
