SF Examiner mentions that Muni is (finally) planning on constructing the turnaround for the T-Third/Central Subway around the block of 18th, Illinois and 19th, possibly extending that to 20th to reach the Pier 70 development.

construction possibly beginning early next year, finished by year's end, which actually probably means starting sometime next year, finishing in 2015.

aside from greater frequency on some parts of the line, it would mean the N-Judah could be extended into MB from its current terminus at the Caltrain station.

It did! er..is! I'm watching it right now, and they're interviewing a woman working on Mission Bay who is explaining how they're building all the new structures to be basically earthquake-proof. With all the effort that goes into ensuring the stability of these structures (example: anchoring foundations over 200 feet underground to surpass the artificial fill and bay mud to reach bedrock), it's amazing they are building as fast as they even are. Definitely fascinating to watch. The show and the construction, that is.

around this time every year I start thinking, what are Giants fans who haven't been to this area since October going to be surprised at once the season starts back up? and this year the public safety building tops the list

Nice pictures. I agree that now that it's out of the ground, the public safety building seems like it's been rising fast.

upon Block 40, a 995,000 square foot office complex composed of two "campuses" is proposed to rise. Each campus would feature a 5-story building connected to a 12-story, rising up to 180 feet. 680 parking spaces would be provided in two 5-story parking garages. The western facades of the buildings and open spaces facing Interstate 280 have been designed so that if Interstate 280 is razed, the area could be repurposed as public open space.

they've been working on the sewer infrastructure for the future streets. if I have got this right, unlike in the rest of the City, in MB the sewers will separate wastewater from rainfall (that is, storm runoff), so all this new development will not add any extra burden to the municipal waste-treatment system (edit: that is, on wet-weather days, which are the only times the system has trouble coping, and sometimes overflows). this is looking west down what will be Mission Bay Blvd North:



over at the public safety building, the steel now reaches north-south all the way across the pit. here looking from the south:

elsewhere, they haven't really started on the new UCSF medical office building - the piece of drilling equipment in a pic from a few weeks ago has just been sitting waiting as far as I can tell.

and they are still futzing around with site prep down at 2121 Third. looked like they were pumping concrete or cement into the ground for a while, and now they have dug a new hole in the middle of the nice level excavated floor they had made, and are crushing rocks into powder. I don't know enough about construction to know what is going on exactly:

Nice to see that handsome warehouse being used in a fitting way. I can definitely see plenty of people getting loaded at the brewery and then stumbling to the Giants game.

- the steel now fills close to half the pit of the public safety building, 2 stories high.

- the thick platform of the former Visitor Center has been mostly pulverized, leaving a shallow mound of dirt.

- work continues at blocks 2, 3, 5, and on the sewer-pipe laying in the new streets west of Fourth, but not enough visible change to merit photos

UCSF sent out a notice saying that prep work on the Block 25 office building at the NE corner of 16th and 4th will begin next week. Fences are going up, and there are some tweaks to vehicular circulation within the UCSF campus to accommodate construction vehicle access.

Formal construction is planned to start on March 11 and they will be auguring the piles instead of driving them, so no banging noises. Completion scheduled for August 2014.

at block 13E (on the left here), they were erecting tall wooden frames around the rebar trunks that have materialized this week, so this one may be about to make the leap into visibility above sidewalk level:

southbound Third St was closed and torn up between 16th and Mariposa, so looks like we'll get a smooth street and maybe sidewalks over there soon:

Also, southbound Third between 16th and Mariposa is projected to reopen on April 1.

In other news, UCSF held another Mission Bay workshop regarding its Long Range Development Plan last week, and laid out their plans for the rest of Mission Bay. Some PDFs on that page showing they've decided on housing for Block 15, and are looking at going significantly taller in some locations (160 feet at both corner of 16th/3rd and over on Owens, with a 110-foot garage behind the Owens building).

They will need to get revised approvals to increase the allowable square footage on the campus. The plan puts them over by about a million, but 800,000 of that (400,000 existing, 400,000 new) would be housing that wasn't envisioned in the original plan.

Bosa said the units would be larger than Madrone — and more expensive.

“It’s going to be a notch up from Madrone — the sizes, the finishes, the exterior,” said Bosa. “It’s a little more modern. It’s a newer plan.”
