After many years in the making, it appears that the major residential and retail proposal for the shuttered Cuneo Memorial Hospital/Maryville Academy site in Uptown will be moving forward. There have been a number of stops and false starts over the last 15 months, but according to Alderman James Cappleman, the Montrose and Clarendon project has officially received the support of the 46th Ward Zoning & Development Committee — a group comprised of neighborhood businesses and nonprofit organizations that oversees proposals in the Uptown area. The proposal from JDL Development had resurfaced last month with some changes, notably the unit count and the request for Tax Increment Financing (TIF) dollars.

381 total apartments
289 parking spaces
and 37,371 square feet of retail space

Cladding Sealing off MILA on Chicago's Michigan Avenue

Quote:
Since topping off at a height of 444 feet / 135 metres earlier this year, the installation of cladding has made steady progress at Chicago's 41-storey MILA development. Named for its position at the intersection of N Michigan Avenue and Lake Street, the tower stands just west of the famous 24.5-acre Millennium Park.

* 850 N State St got a building permit to build the 2 story retail structure in front (their lobby is being moved to Chestnut). As far as I know, they weren't going to build the structure until they got a tenant or two signed, so maybe that's in place? Who knows.

* BIG NEWS***** Tower of Jewel got its foundation thru floor 3 permit yesterday !

^ Nice........tower of Jewel has been a looooooong time coming........I'm also looking forward to that 4-5 story addition to the one building across the street into residential - anybody know the status of that project? IIRC, it was entitled alongside tower of jewel, but is different development team....

^ Interesting. I didn't realize this was still a multi-phase project actually. It's all designed by HPA, right?

Phase 1 is the main highrise and a 1 story retail building where Cuneo stands. Not sure when they anticipate phase 2 to start, so who knows what could happen to the design.

I think it's re-using an existing cut, if that matters.

DNAInfo started their own version of everyblock recently. Nothing chums the water like NIMBY-bait.

And Gino's East is completely gone. I'm kinda shocked how quickly it came down considering how slowly things moved at first.

^ Related is taking over, and bringing in new architect Handel (of 111 w wacker infamy), so it seems like we can kiss the original twisting design goodbye.

boo.

Excuse me if I'm slightly more skeptical.
