Judging by this drone video of the Gordie Howe bridge construction posted in the last day, this is very close to being the second tallest in Detroit, if it isn’t already.

^ Mouais... You're praising them too much.

Their river is surely nice looking. Hopefully they don't pollute it too much.

I'm being provocative on purpose, so they have to do better.

Wow, it's a properly tall building now...how many levels before it tops out?

Materials here seem top notch and cost something, but I can't help thinking this is well spent money.
It's a nice looking tower that compliments the lovely red Deco one nearby in the picture.

I guess cities need to take good care of their downtowns, so quality development and education spread around.
That's much the way it seems to work.

There's some controversy about "gentrification" that would drive lower incomes away from city centers.
But a proper mixed-income policy may solve it, as long as better-off people don't act like selfish pricks.

So what exactly is your point?

And regarding TylerJ's comment, unless proof can be provided/shared that the developer's pro forma is shockingly bad, I'm gonna take that with the tiniest grain of salt available.

About 10 floors. So it should be topped out before the end of December. A bit bittersweet knowing it could have been just a little bit taller.

Thanks for sharing that. What a lovely shot. There is just something about its presence that I love, maybe something about the way the downtown streets spindle outward and make such a beautiful mess of buildings new and old. Its terracing was not my favorite when I saw it at first, but it seems to fit with the art deco style of other nearby scrapers without taking away from them in any way. I also love how it takes the focus away from the Renaissance Center from northern and northwestern vantages.

The Ren Cen in particular always made everything about the skyline feel so imbalanced to me from just about every angle. It doesn't look so bad head-on from approximately north or south (its orientation isn't exact) such as in the photo above, where you can see space between the buildings, but when you view it from its eastern and western sides, the smaller towers that encircle the hotel portion are elongated making them appear fat on bottom and almost as if the towers are all one. Its grotesque from those angles in my opinion, and my mind's desire to find balance and visual order in the built environment is disturbed. I'm made to feel very uncomfortable when I look at it.

I don't know if this was intentional by the Ren Cen's designer, but I've always felt this way, even as a child. No matter how much they've done to open up that monster, to make its internal spaces more permeable, there is still its location and imposing size that will always keep it separate from the core and it will always dominate skyline views from the river, taking away views of the much more beautiful architecture tucked away behind it as viewed from the river.

Nevertheless, Hudson Tower, or whatever it's ultimately called, provides a new focal point that is much more balanced when viewed from the north, northeast, and northwest, whether that be from approximately Brush Park, Woodward, or Grand River. Entering the city from just about anywhere but Canada should be a new visual experience centered around the heart of downtown, and a much more visually balanced view at that.

So far, I love how the new tower is turning out. Even though it will not be a new tallest, it looks like it may as well be from this side of the city.

Wow, what a spectacular shot that magnificently displays the re-balancing of the skyline this tower represents.

Well done, Detroit!

This is really lovely, and seeing all of the other new developments in Detroit is just wonderful.

Gawd damnn animatedmartian good looks that is one sexy ass pic. Love the height, placement & style of the Hudsons it feels like Detroit’s revitalization has reached a moment of maturity.

ShadowSoarer over on detroityes posted this nice shot looking down State. Its getting easier to imagine the facade in full.

Looks like the core is officially taller than both Ally and the Penobscot's roof. Pretty cool.

It's nice how the one of the skyline views where this adds the most is also the view seen when capturing the new Gordie Howe Bridge in the foreground
