I agree. Also nice not to have a big gaping hole that will disrupt the flow of the design.

Looks Asian to me, almost as if Pelli had designed it.

The crown looks a bit like the one atop Atlanta's 1180 Peachtree, which I visited a few months ago. It's a good way to add a couple dozen feet to a building's structural height, and Tribune could easily have made it just tall enough to become taller than Sears/Willis, but unfortunately it chose not to. A photo of 1180 Peachtree:

They seem pretty serious about it, maybe for next cycle?

It seems like a shot in the dark now, but given the right market conditions Chicago is perfectly capable of another project this size.

Everyone says just a couple more feet and I'm here thinking I doubt it will rise over 1,200 if even built!

Maybe, keep in mind though that Chicago's tallest project to rise in a while (Vista) actually got a height increase, not decrease like most of the others.

Hey, maybe they'll wedge in a blow through to justify bumping the height past Sears!!!

There are two other sites right next to the NBC Tower and in front of the tribune tower east site, they could build trio supertalls like in shanghai

This is/was the case with most 100 story buildings years after their completion, including Empire State.

You'd think China of all places would just turn on the lights and pretend to save face though

Yep, let's hope that doesn't happen in Chicago.

Construction wasn't supposed to start until 2022 anyway. These are seasoned developers.

That's fine and I honestly don't care if that happens, as long as it gets built, it'll fill up eventually.

It may not be 113 actual floors though. For instance, NYC's Central Park Tower is advertised to have 131 floors, but only 95 habitable floors.

Then again it's possible that it really is 113 -- after all, Vista does have 101 floors as advertised. Currently only two cities in the world have 3 skyscrapers with 100 or more floors, Chicago and Dubai. If Chicago becomes the first city to have 4, it would again be #1 in a category in the skyscraper race!

It's hard to tell but it looks like 113 real ones from the rendering, 96 has also been thrown around.

Right, although CPT is advertised as 130 something, though it really has about 100.
