Thumbs up More on Apparel park

Kinfra Apparel Park expansion nearly complete

Quote:
The second phase of development of the Kinfra International Apparel Park near Thiruvananthapuram is almost complete.

According to Mr A.S. Suresh Babu, Managing Director, Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra), almost all the land available in the 90-acre apparel park has now been allotted.

SECOND PHASE

The second phase of the development included the installation of a common effluent treatment plant, enhancement of the park's power distribution system and establishment of a crèche within the park.

This development activity was carried out with assistance from the Union Textile Ministry under its `apparel parks for export' scheme, he added.

A three-storey building has also been constructed under the scheme, he said. With a built-up area of 75,000 square feet, the building can accommodate six units.

Five of these units have been allocated to the New Delhi-based Creative Home Fashions Pvt Ltd, which has commenced operations in this facility.

Leela expansion

Meanwhile, Leela International Ltd, part of the Leela group, which operates three units in the apparel park, is in the midst of expanding its capacity.

The company currently employs around 1,100 people in the park and this figure is expected to rise to 2,500 when the expansion process is completed.

Other companies that are in the process of setting up units in the park include All India Handloom Fabrics Marketing Cooperative Society Ltd and the Bangalore-based Texport Syndicate.

BS Reporter / Bangalore May 19, 2007

Infosys Technologies on Saturday announced the commencement of work on its first campus in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The company is planning to invest Rs 306 crore in the campus.

Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the development centre. Infosys has been operating out of a leased facility in Thiruvananthapuram since 2004. With the completion of the new facility, Infosys will have two full-fledged operations in the city.
