PHILADELPHIA | Penn Medicine New Patient Pavilion | 343 FT | 17 FLOORS

So Penn Medicine did a town hall presentation about status/design updates and timeline about the Pavilion. Here's some of the info I think is useful/cool, not sure if it's new or previously known:

Timeline: They're about halfway through construction, looking at early 2021 to finish construction, for activation/occupancy by mid-2021.

1.5 million square feet, 504 patient rooms (all upper 7 floors), 47 operating/procedure rooms,, 61 emergency department rooms, 690 Parking spaces underground.

There's going to be a bridge from SEPTA University City Station to the Pavilion

Destination dispatch elevators; in the hallway you push what floor you're going to, it tells you what elevator to get on and sends you to that floor. Supposed to decrease the amount of wait time/delays.

Built in a way to maximize space and natural lighting.

The emergency department is moving into this building, towards the end of Convention Ave/Health Sciences Drive

In the LONG-TERM future, looking at possible upgrades to transportation such that an airport-style moving walkway in a contained bridge down 34th street connecting the garages, or a monorail looping through parts of University City.

Thanks for the update. The elavators have a neat function. The monorail will be good to connect to all the buildings. Both things I did not know about.

That sucks, we just got these at my office and they are significantly slower than the old system. They develop a mind of their own and will occasionally just skip your floor. The system also doesn't know how many people are on the elevator so it loves sending us completely full elevators when people are trying to leave for the day.

"SS Penn" doesn't look awful from a distance. It's too early to tell whether I like the siding, but it appears better than more glass.

Looks like an homage to the reddish-brown brick of the stadium, as well as the stadium's curve. In another place one could call this building ugly, but in its context, it's starting to make more sense to me. Would rather see more of the textured, corrugated panels that line the cantilevered lower floor along Convention Ave. than the flatter panels, but other than that, this is turning out better than expected.

Not only that, but the curved design plays off of the Penn museum rotunda and CHOP's emergency room right next to it, as well as CHOP''s buerger center. I think the curved look fits in really nicely with the majority of its surroundings.

Ha Ha, during the Penn relays, views of this building look imposing but unfinished.

I’m kinda loving it now. The form is so interesting but also calming to that crazy intersection. There’s a beauty to the form too, like it feels right. Fibonacci sequencey.
