I've been a dance music lover since the 80's and fondly remember when you could go to a nightclub and actually dance without having people stand around posing for social media or dealing with asshats and their bottle service.
However, we're trying to build a successful downtown that is open to everyone and one that could draw people from all areas of the valley. We shouldn't be too picky, choosy, and judgy when it comes to the "types" of establishments we think belong or "fit". And what exactly is the "vibe" of Roosevelt Row these days? Desoto/Track is located on Central Ave.! I know people who live downtown who were looking forward to checking out the place, just as I know people in Scottsdale who do venture out to enjoy dwtn Phoenix. Sure these types of establishments can appear to be polarizing to some, but if you don't like them, you don't have to frequent them. It's not as though they can't thrive in downtown areas. Ruby Skye stuck around for 17 years in Union Square in San Francisco (saw Tiesto there in 2007).
I do sort of wish they had eased up on some of the shows initially in order to just build a presence downtown as a standard night club instead of relying on these shows with overpriced tickets to bring in bodies.

AZLiam -Thank you for the thoughtful and intelligent response.
Dude, i totally get you. I am an EDM groupie and love EDM music as much as the next guy. I've been to Ultra Miami, EDC Las Vegas, and Coachella just to check out Afrojack, Diplo (before he blew up), Aoki, Bennassi, and others. I've been to Ruby Skye, Vessel, Monarch in the city, and Mansion in Miami. Countless pool parties and clubs in Vegas to try and catch Calvin Harris or DJ Chuckie. Hell, I used to go Bar Smith when I wanted to get weird and hear some deep house. That being said, I still believe that specific concept, in that specific building, and in that specific location in downtown was a bad fit. I think they could've had success along Washington or some cool warehouse further south.
Maybe I just feel strongly attached to DeSoto as we used to go there all the time, loved taking people there from out of town, and we even took some engagement pics there. A nightclub seemed like an injustice to me. Chucky and his partners are smart guys and I hope they figure it out and repurpose it somehow. If another developer knows exactly what to do w/ it, then I hope they sell. I really enjoyed the community aspect of DSM.
