World Trade Center in Camden?

http://www.philly.com/philly/busines...de_Center.html

I know this is Philly, but Camden is right there and this project had its chance to be on the Philly side of the waterfront.

If it does get built I hope they change the look and it brings some changes to Camden.

It would certainly be a lot better to look at from the Philly side of the Delaware. But sadly this project will not change Camden. Camden consists of people - the people have to change before Camden changes.

This should probably be rolled under the General developments thread.

This is why I didn't create a thread for this project

You can tell it's a good design because the academics all seem to be kvetching about it.

Kellie Gates over at PlanPhilly gives us this article. I still think a better waterfront can come to fruition, even with projects being scaled down.

from philly.com:

If tomato king Joe Procacci gets Philadelphia's second casino license, Philadelphia will also get a new entertainment district with restaurants, retail, sports facilities, zip-lines, a golf driving range, a dry ski/skateboarding park, water park, and live music.

I has a walk. No photos, unfortunately.

1. Evo is now up to three stories.
2. The Schuylkill Banks boardwalk is looking good. Structural elements for the entire length have been laid, and they are installing wood forms for the deck pour down by the South St. Bridge.
3. The new Perelman expansion (South Tower?) is coming along nicely; it's definitely rising well above the original Viñoly plinth.
4. The new CHoP building is going to be huge--and that's without any later vertical expansion!
5. Somebody installed a window on the old JFK School building (CHoP property--last proposal was to demolish it). I wonder if CHoP is now actually thinking about actively reusing it instead?
6. The new park at 33rd and Spruce is nice to sit in, and will be nicer still when the shade trees grow in.
7. Wistar is looking pretty sweet.
8. 2.0 University Place is quite done, and quite banal. Hopefully 3.0 will one-up it.
9. Ground has been broken on the new Penn Presby pavilion. Just concrete basement pours as of yet, though.
10. 3737 Market has been topped off and the cladding is rising.
11. The Hess labs are being demolished.
12. Chestnut Square is nearly finished. The east building is done and its tenants are getting installed in place; the west building looks to just be getting done itself. Workers were also pouring its new sidewalk.
13. Did I mention that Evo is at its third floor?

I thought I might have seen some sample wall cladding sections on the southeast corner of Hill Field (possibly in preparation for construction of Penn's new college house) when I was driving along the other side of the field on Chestnut Street the other day. Would you mind perhaps checking that out on your next walk around University City?

Yes I saw that too. Definitely for Penn's new dorm.

Inga's latest column has some nice shots of the completed Singh Center at Penn. It's definitely a striking building that I'd love to see in person. I couldn't believe for a moment that first picture in the article was a photograph and not a rendering.

Yep, just drove by there again, albeit on Chestnut again, and verified what I saw the first time. But still haven't gotten over to Walnut to see it up close.

I also saw a lot of activity on Hill Field today--appeared to be lots of stakes being installed, perhaps to delineate where certain parts of this project will be, or to fence off construction areas from other parts of the field that will remain in use? On the other hand, it could have been for some Penn event and completely unrelated to the upcoming construction. I just drove by quickly and couldn't really spend any time trying to figure it out.

I took a tour of it last month. It is impressive, and as in most notable buildings, the details are what make it great. One of my favorite spaces was on the outside deck near the cantilevered conference room. Seeing Penn's campus from that vantage point, smelling the earthiness of the wooden boards beneath my feet, and feeling the closeness of nature in the newly planted grove of trees made me forget that I was still in/on a science building. This is definitely not your typical sterile, hyper-rational lab building.

Wister institute expansion:

Shaping up to be a great ensamble....even the ugly building with the bays looks cool now....

I'm hoping those windows in the old part will be replaced by something more appropriate....
