Yup been there. Worth the time if you're in the area.

It's most likely because Cincinnati itself isn't as popular as either a relocation or tourist destination. That and people love fried chicken. Charlotte's most popular local fried chicken closed last month and folks really showed up for a final show of support.

Nashville's entire rise is thanks to WSM 650AM and its continuous production and syndication of the Grand Ol Opry radio show. Such syndicated shows were common throughout the United States in the 1930s through 1960s or so (i.e. 700WLW Cincinnati's Midwestern Hayride)…

What's crazy is that something similar to Opryland *did* get built in...Paducah, KY. It was the Executive Inn, or just "The E". It had like 3,000 rooms. It was GIGANTIC. It was built for regional stuff, not unlike Opryland.
It was demolished around 2005.
Springfield, MO has a similar history with being a regional music hub for the Ozarks and plains, too lazy to look it up but believe there was a famous radio station as well. This all spun off into the rise of Branson as a mutant mega-Opryland detached from a city unfortunately - Springfield could have easily been Nashville West.

I looked it up…Springfield, MO really fumbled the ball…

“ During the 1950s, Springfield ranked third in the U.S. for originating network television programs, behind New York and Hollywood[citation needed]. Four nationally broadcast television series originated from the city between 1955 and 1961: Ozark Jubilee and its spin-off, Five Star Jubilee; Talent Varieties; and The Eddy Arnold Show. All were carried live by ABC except for Five Star Jubilee on NBC…”

When I would drive from StL to Austin for SXSW Springfield easily always had the best downtown at street level on the route before Austin. Almost seemed like a mini-Austin at times with bands playing and lots of people on the street, downtown Tulsa and OKC seemed dead in comparison. Very decent downtown bones for a city of the type / region and could easily have been in the mold of Nashville and Austin with some skyscrapers as the pre-war urban platform
was more than enough.

I've never been there. I mostly picture it as the party town of red America but I know its becoming successful like other southern cities.

nashville is just regular colombian marching powder in a cadillac while branson is speedballing in a ‘93 yellow pontiac sunbird

I'm not very familiar with Branson so why would it be? Nashville is home to the headquarters of several Protestant evangelical denominations and Christian publishing companies. The only other city I've heard referenced as such is Colorado Springs which is also an evangelical hub with a large military presence.

The idea that Evangelicalism is Protestantism is bizarre to me.

Also, the idea that Protestantism has meccas in the Southern U.S. would make Martin Luther's head spin. Mainline Protestantism has nothing to do with U.S. Evangelicalism, or even the Southern Baptist and Methodist church, as commonly practiced.

Aside from country music, where I live Nashville is known for awesome atmosphere on Predators' game nights.

So totally true, it is "RED" America, to the nth degree.

Absolutely correct. Sadly, these types of characterizations come from a deep misunderstanding of the subject.

I've never been there either, but it seems like the town is just a big tribute to Protestant American culture.

Americans prefer imitations of the real thing to the real thing. Nashville didn't get popular as a tourist attraction until it became a parody of itself.

Vandy / Athens of the south
Relatively safe compared to very-violent Memphis
Country and Christian rock music , session musicians at live music spots playing in their own bands
The Parthenon, the Opry
Good bones for urbanizing , just like Austin and Columbus
Southern baptists — city is not hated by right wingers
The movie Nashville , Altman’s best
Pretty setting
