Nice shot there, Jerry. The pre-war density in that shot looks super epic!

The color of that clad has me a little worried.

The rendering gave me the impression that it was going to be more of a lighter stone color vs the yellow sandstone vibe I'm seeing here/above.

I like the sandstone color they're using, it matches the tones of the historic student housing tower down the block, and this city doesn't need any more grayish buildings. The texture of the panels looks interesting as well. It will be interesting to see how it looks as a final product.

02/01/2023 - I do not find the color of the skin pleasing at all. I had expected a much better looking building.

April 15, 2023 - Crane removal today. The building is a great disappointment to me. I hate the color of the concrete. I expected better. This is the first time I don't see several cranes in the area of this photo.

This one is complete!

The specs for 198 McAllister (The Academe):
- 14 floors,
- 656 bedrooms
- 50,000 sq ft for academic functions (offices, classrooms, auditorium, courtrooms)
- 8,000 sq ft for retail

UC Law Opens The Academe At 198 In San Francisco

BY: ANDREW NELSON 5:30 AM ON FEBRUARY 1, 2024

UC Law San Francisco has completed construction on The Academe at 198, a mixed-use building with student housing and classrooms at 198 McAllister Street in Civic Center, San Francisco. The 14-story structure is the second phase of the Academic Village redevelopment led by UCSF and Greystar.

...

Perkins&Will is the project architect. The tower is clad with distinctive aluminum panels that contribute to the overall depth and texture. These concave features, according to Perkins&Will, are an “abstraction of the depth and texture of the fluted classical columns found in traditional judicial design.”

...

UC Law shared that construction cost $282 million. With the mixed-use complex now complete, the school’s next project will be the renovations and structural upgrades to the historic 28-story tower at 100 McAllister Street.
