Brickell Burger King Could Be Replaced With 960-Foot Tower

Brickell’s only Burger King serves thousands of meals to construction workers, but it may soon be replaced by a skyscraper.

Plans were submitted to the FAA last week for a 954-foot tower on the site, which would replace the entire Burger King strip mall at 10 Southwest Eighth Street. It would top out at 960 feet above sea level, thanks to a six-foot elevation of the property.

The developer behind the proposal wasn’t listed.

The property is surrounded on all sides by active development sites. They include Brickell City Centre, SLS Lux, Brickell Heights, and Solitair.

960-Foot Tower Across From Brickell City Centre Has A Name: Brickell Market Place

The tower that could replace Brickell’s Burger King is named Brickell Market Place, according to a new filing by the developer.

If approved by the FAA, the tower will rise 954 feet above ground, or 960 feet above sea level. The proposal reached interim status with the FAA this week.

The Burger King strip mall at 10 Southwest Eighth Street is surrounded on all sides by active development sites, including Brickell City Centre, SLS Lux, Brickell Heights, and Solitair.

Brickell Market Place lists Grace Dillon, a project manager at Claro Development, as a contact for the project.

If approved this will be the 7th. tower over 500+ ft. | 152 m to rise within a 2 block area and Calle' Ocho is becoming a skyscraper canyon.

Maybe a high end residential tower will rise. Given the parcel size. Office I doubt. Would be a waste on that site.

Although I'd be in big favor for a tower that has lots of affordable housing units. To cater to the growing CBD workers.

The Owner of a strip mall across from Brickell City Centre has submitted plans to replace it with a project simply called “18”.

City Center Properties, LLC is proposing a 78-story tower, topping off at 950 feet above ground.

There will be four levels of retail on the lower floors, totaling 66,618 square feet. The upper levels will be residential, with 392 units.

The .78 acre project site at 10 SW 8th Street is surrounded by active construction projects on all four sides, including Brickell Heights, SLS Lux, Solitair, and Brickell City Centre.

NBWW is the architect. The project will be reviewed by Miami’s Urban Development Review Board next week.

UDRB Approves 78-Story To Replace Brickell Burger King, Construction Mid-2018

MIAMI – (February 17, 2017) — The City of Miami’s Urban Design and Review Board (UDRB) voted to recommend approval of ‘18’ a mixed-use development during its scheduled meeting on February 16, 2017. The approval paves the way for Claro Development to continue managing the Brickell-based project’s development which will include high-rise luxury condos and retail. With more than a decade of experience in managing intricate high-end projects, Claro was selected by Karam Group to serve as the owner’s representative and project manager.

“We are honored that Karam Group has entrusted us to represent them and manage the development of this important addition to the heart of Brickell,” said Ray Lastra, Claro principal. “This approval by the UDRB brings us one step closer to bringing this exciting and innovative mixed-used project to area residents and visitors.”

Located at the corner of S.W. 8th Street and S. Miami Avenue, the 78-story building will include 66,618 square feet (four levels) of retail space at the ground level. Structured parking will be provided within the building and screened in with artistic treatment, which will help enhance the modern tower. The upper levels will consist of 392 residential units that will offer dynamic views of the downtown Miami core and Brickell Financial District.

“We are very pleased with Claro’s efforts for the vision of this project and with the UDRB’s decision to recommend approval of 18, which will not only help realize the four corners of the heart of Brickell, but continue to transform it into one of the most vibrant areas in South Florida.” said Simon and Antoine Karam, Principals of Karam Group.

Surrounded by new high-rise projects on all four sides, including Brickell Heights, SLS Lux, Solitair and Brickell City Center, 18 will aid in unifying the transformation of Brickell. The LEED Silver building is being designed by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associate and has FAA approval for 960 feet.

Brickell Burger King to be Dethroned by 76-Storey Tower

While local fast food lovers bemoan the loss of the long-standing Burger King at the corner of SW 8th Street and S Miami Avenue in the heart of the rapidly changing Brickell district of downtown Miami, a whopper of a different kind is set to take its place. The proposed 76-storey 18 residential tower designed by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates, Inc. for Karam Group and Claro Development is set to become the latest in a string of highrise projects now under construction in the area.

This would be a new tallest if built now. In the next 3 years, Miami will see some 800 ft + towers rise. Currently, Panorama Tower is the record holder once finished. Kinda sucks One Bayfront Plaza will start in 2019, but, barring any economic slump, it should rise.

I've often wondered about this. It's one thing to have high balconies in other cities, but I've always wondered what the wind is like up there in coastal cities or ones that border other large bodies of water, such as Chicago. I remember being told that it was too windy to be out on the observation balcony of a hotel in Corpus Christi, and that was only on the 20th floor. It was facing the bay and it was very windy.

Anyway, this is a great looking tower. I especially like the top.
