Have they activated the pumping system that pulls water out of Ladybird lake so that Waller creek is constant flow from the park down to the lake?

Good question. I assumed that everything was up and running, including that, but not sure. We have had a lot of rain pretty much since the project has been completed, so they might not even need to use that function yet. Assuming that it is only used when the natural stream flow is low.

The Waterloo Greenway’s Next Phase Begins Later This Year on Waller Creek

https://austin.towers.net/the-waterl...-waller-creek/

Now that Austin’s had a few months to get familiar with the reopened Waterloo Park, you might wonder what’s next for the Waterloo Greenway conservancy, since the nonprofit’s plans for transforming the rest of Waller Creek into a 35-acre linear park running 1.5 miles from 15th Street to Lady Bird Lake on the eastern edge of downtown have been public knowledge for years. But unlike the decade-long timeline of Waterloo Park’s renovation — complicated by the tortured construction of a flood control tunnel making the park equally important as a work of public infrastructure — we won’t have quite as long to wait for Phase 2 of the Waterloo Greenway project, with construction on its next segment currently scheduled to begin in Q3 2022.

We have BIG news, Austin! Thanks to the recently approved Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded #WaterlooGreenway with $9M in federal funding to propel the next phase of our 35-acre park system forward — The Confluence.

Extremely cool! Thats my favorite part of the design for sure - and makes sense given all the $$$ being poured into that part of downtown.

Big piece of the puzzle falling into place. This helps knit the MACC and all of the private development along the east shore of the creek together. And supports whatever finally ends up on the parcels south of the convention center.

Construction contract for Waterloo Greenway's second phase approved

Quote:
Austin residents can expect the second phase of Waterloo Greenway—a three-phase project that will connect 35 acres of green space along Waller Creek in downtown Austin—to break ground in spring 2023.

Waller Creek Local Government Corporation chose its preferred developer for the second phase, Jay-Reese Contractors, on Jan. 18. The company has already worked on several local projects, including the Pfluger Bridge, Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake and Second Street Bridge.

The second phase, called The Confluence, will extend from Fourth Street to Lady Bird Lake. The trail system will meander through a “cultural epicenter” of Austin, as it will sit next to Palm Park, the Rainey Street Historic District, the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, the Austin Convention Center, Brush Square Park, and the Butler Hike and Bike Trail.

I'm very excited for this section of the project to take shape. I think it will be a better everyday "destination" than Waterloo Park, which I also think is great. Waterloo is a nice venue and very nice place overall but it's still just too isolated geographically right now.

Yep. Most people don't even know it's there. I have to tell visitors that stay at the Indigo or Sheraton about it.

I have to imagine some folks who frequent Waterloo may like the fact that it's lesser known for now.

I'm excited to see this one take shape. Waterloo Park is such a beautiful amenity, but situated in a really complicated part of the city. This one could be more visible, marginally more well-attended, and also bring parts of Palm Park into the next generation.
