Sounds like a NIMBY battle brewing for this one unfortunately. I mean, I get it, it's a beautiful mural, but this is my #1 gripe with murals. They're painted to cover up blight or a hideous building, and for the most part, are meant to be a temporary Band-Aid until the parcel, building or empty lot next door is developed. The problem then is, that once the mural is up, people kick and whine when the mural is being covered up or demolished for development and progress.

^why should they have the right...it's not their bldg. it sounds like more of an ulterior motive to prevent development for whatever reasons are in their minds. They can digital scan the mural and put it on another bldg-problem solved.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't sound like there is too much momentum (and money) involved in this fight. I think the develop won't have an issue moving forward with the plans. If this were Society Hill, then its a different story.

There is an extremely wealthy person in the neighborhood actively attempting to kill this project-- not because of the mural. I dont want to name names here but the person is a hypocrite in many ways and this is just their latest exercise of that.

Is this project by right? If so, what other avenues are there to jam this project up?

You don’t have to give specifics, but what reason would anyone have for opposing this?

Anyone can appeal a permit up to 30 days after it is issued-- they have 16 days left to appeal their zoning/use permit-- hopefully they won't bother.

I'm not even certain about that. This person has brought up the lack of affordable housing, killing the gayborhood, and concerns about height/density. Personally, I think the person has a completely unrelated reason. Hopefully they were all talk-- but of all the people who have commented against it, this person has the ability ($$$) to drag it out.

Now I'm curious. I live in the neighborhood and haven't heard of any opposition outside of some complaining on the neighborhood FB group. I'll have to keep my ears open.

Sigh... sounds like a disaster in the making. Developer should head this off at the pass and commission the recreation of this mural elsewhere.

Not a big deal, gym will jump on anything that gets her press. She’s not that influential

I went to a SEPTA event with her as a speaker just before COVID...

every answer she gave was either dodging a question or was spoken from an uninformed position on public transit. I have no idea why she was even asked to speak.

Gym considers herself a "progressive" (I still don't really know what that means), but I see her as an updated version of the democratic Philadelphia machine. Forget investment, jobs, growth, wealth, lowering poverty, etc. Lets put our efforts into saving a mural... Truly amazing...

I still would be shocked if this project got derailed because of this.

It's incredible to me that none of you can even imagine wanting to save the building at 12th & Chancellor, or that no one is bothered by adding a new large curb cut on 12th.
