Looks gross to me.

If this were Denver, I would say it fits right in, but we are not a dry brown desert city..... So yeah. Hard pass.

As window wall facade systems go, that looks pretty damn good.

Yeah, not sure how I feel..., will reserve judgement until I see in person when finished.

But the orange and peach colors are a bit of a bizarre trend to me - this, 160 N Elizabeth, and looks to continue with 170 N Green (Bridgford). Not sure what the impetus is.

These colors remind me of my high school which was built in the mall boom of the 1970s, as some of the buildings on the university campus I went to so my gut reaction is it feels weirdly retro.

Not that it should necessarily merit putting it on building facades, but orange is one of the two colors of the Bears, so not entirely out of place in Chicago.

True, we're a wet grey flatlands city--the variety is nice imo.

It's amazing how much downtown Chicago has expanded West in the last few years. These mid-rises all together make a pretty big impact.

Though on the taller end, is 400LSD still supposed to break ground Q4 this year? I'd ask about Parcel I too but that seems a ways away.

I like it. Our city is full of brick buildings with red/brown shades, and the West Loop especially. Are we not allowed to use those colors on highrises?

Also, we have a different quality of light from Denver, Phoenix or San Francisco so it will never look like those cities.

rusted corten steel is hot right now, so the dark orange mimics that and is significantly cheaper, and is definitely a trend coming out of the western states

I can see certain shades working, but I saw a lot of funky crap in Denver while I was there. I would prefer that not be a trend here too. Glass, dark metals, and brick are the way to go here, not tacky Bears-themed color palletes. Keep that crap out in Arlington Heights where it belongs.

166 Aberdeen could turn out nice, similar to 5252 in Hyde Park (also by SCB). The three-dimensional depth of the facade is a pleasant surprise.

By this logic, all blue glass buildings are Cubs-themed, red brick buildings are Bulls-themed, and black buildings are Sox-themed. When we ask for things to be unique ("no more blue-glass boxes"), this is what we get.

We shall see.
Yes, I think this is the appropriate comparison, not something in Tempe. It's clearly meant to extend the orange brick used on the base up to the top of the tower, rather than having a stark divide between the two.

Here is the Tempe version, for reference - it's a corrugated metal panel, not smooth, and it plays against the exposed concrete for a raw/unfinished look. The podium is also funky and sculptural with contrasting metal, not contextual with brick.

Color looking better to me in these shots. Very closely matches brick on surrounding building.

Also the quality simply looks very good.
