Ditto for PA. I guarantee you SE PA (Philadelphia and it's suburbs, including the Lehigh Valley) accounts for almost the entire miss in PA. If anything, it could be even more drastic of a miscount because they probably overcounted western PA.

Illinois has only Chicago.

A lot of people in SE PA and the Lehigh Valley work out of state...the area is so connected.

Lots of cross state commuters between PA and NJ, PA and DE, PA and MD, and even PA and NY.

Bucks County is a bedroom community for the RT 1 corridor in NJ (Princeton area). Lots of people in Delaware and Chester Counties in PA commute to banking and pharma jobs in Delaware. Increasingly, people in York County are commuting to Baltimore and the DC Metroplex. And in the Lehigh Valley (Allentown and Bethlehem) you have thousands of people commuting to North Jersey and NYC. NJ Transit is contemplating extending one of its commuter lines into the Lehigh Valley.

But the Lehigh Valley (Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe Counties) as well as South Central PA (Lancaster, York, Lebanon, Dauphin, Cumberland Counties) have very strong economies in their own right. PA only grew 2.4%, but I guarantee you that if you cleaved the state in 2, roughly along the I80 corridor, south and east of I80 probably grew between 5 and 10% and north and west of the I80 corridor probably shrunk 5%.

Its the tale of two states for sure.

California gained 2.3 million people and still lost a seat.

Biggest state problems.

I wish because Biden would have won TX handily but no, the number of Californians that moved to Texas in the last decade was 687,000.

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/...n-last-decade/

Arizona gained around 500,000 Californians in the same period.

And so forth. WA, CO, UT, ID, NV etc. Californians are populating the west.

And still California still grew by 2.3 million

I mean don't get me wrong, Texas' growth is cute and all and you grew by 4 million people but only gained 2 seats?(ugh)

I've been studying this data since I was in middle school and I can say with certainty that at this rate, Neither TX nor any other state in the 20M+ range will ever see this kind of growth ever again.

California 1980-1990
Population Growth: +6,092,257
Population Growth Rate: +25.74%
Change in Congressional Seats: +7

If California loses a seat, it should extinguish Devin Nunes' district.

That would be sweet revenge.

Or better yet, Kevin McCarthy.

Spineless coward.

Interesting that they were dead on with GA's population estimates(probably due to the Atlanta debacle in the last census) but overestimated NC's population by a lot. So it's confirmed GA is faster growing than NC is for the last decade.

IL is dominated by Chicago, but a decent share of metro St. Louis is in IL (like 700k?) and the Quad Cities is like another 200-300k along the Iowa border. Peoria is a big, small metro area too (400k?).

Wouldn't consider the count for AL to be all that important since our 9 votes. I really hope this huge underestimate by the Census means a higher level of growth for Birmingham. But, frankly, I'd be surprised if B'ham's population changed noticeably... I really think the state number bodes well for Huntsville.

Wait, only 687,000 in 10 years? What percentage is 687,000 out of 40 million?
I can't wait to use these facts in social media about all these Californians moving to Texas and making it blue or whatever etc etc
Roughly 70,000 a year out of 40 million. Meh.

I personally don't care if California loses population. For the longest time, I think that too many people live here anyway.

And if there are people in California who'd rather live in Florida and/or Texas, then cool, if those people are the kind of people that think that Florida and Texas are better places to live in, then please move there. More power to you.

I get that, but places like Texas and Arizona "brag" about all these Californians moving there the past decade. Even on this site. But percentage wise, it's really nothing worth talking about.
