They recently opened a growler bar in N3 which has 48 taps. It's a next level place. They specialize in local and Alberta beer, but there's lots of stuff from BC and elsewhere. The entrance is off the pedestrian lane beside the St. Louis building.

The container park is pretty great too. I think this more than anything makes East Village reach a tipping point of cool.

I just found out my buddy runs this place. Might have to go down and check it out.

They are always friendly and helpful. You can have a good pint just trying samples.

CMLC just released the Buisness Plan for 2018, very interesting.
http://www.calgarymlc.ca/s/17627-CML...-Optimized.pdf

A few of the tidbits:
Quote:

Do to the economic slowdown and the reassessment of downtown property values (which saw the value of downtown's office buildings drop by $3.8 billion, to $17.4 billion), they re-forecast the 20-year CRL Generation from $801 million to $755 million. Which leaves $150 million available to allocate to new projects in Victoria Park (down from $200 million).

List of projects for 2018 include:
  • New Central Library
  • 3rd Street SE Public Realm
  • Rivers District Master Plan
  • 17th Avenue SE Extension (concept design expected March 2018) $40 million
  • 5th Street SE Underpass - working with the Green Line to ensure that this project is aligned, $40 million
  • 9th Ave Bridge into Inglewood - Start construction in Q4 2018 $12 million
  • 9th Ave SE Parkade and Innovation Centre - Start construction in 2019
  • EV Dog Park to be located near Fort Calgary
I am most excited to see what they can do with the 17th avenue extension. Although if the new arena eventually goes in Victoria Park maybe it is better to spend the money in that area.

Also, interested to see another underpass going in at 5th Street SE, seems to be very close to the existing underpass, but I guess the area can support that. It would be great if they are able to integrate it into the Green Line station going in at that area.

Business plan also talks about neither Bosa, Fram and Slokker or Knightsbridge proceeding with projects in 2018, and Fram and Slokker walking away from part of Parcel Q. The condo glut has finally caught up to East Village.

This part is very interesting. At least to me. It's on p.25.

4th Street SE Underpass
Since opening in November 2011, the
4th Street Underpass has seen a lot
of traffic. Designed lighting within
the underpass has failed the test
of time and needs to be replaced
and enhanced.
Additionally, the
space needs a placemaking focus,
especially as CMLC prepares to
unveil the master plan vision for
a new Cultural and Entertainment
District on downtown Calgary’s east
end. CMLC will replace the lighting
with new programmable LED lights,
which will allow for community
programming like that which takes
place on Reconciliation Bridge
(formerly Langevin Bridge). We’ll
also engage our creative community
to animate the underpass with an
extension of our curated mural
program currently in place along
Jack & Jean Leslie RiverWalk.

If the lighting has "failed" after only six years that seems like a major failure in planning. The last time I drove thru that underpass the lighting seemed fine to me. What needs to be enhanced?

I'm curious as well about these supposed failures, as a semi-frequent user of the underpass. I can even see a portion of the underpass from my bedroom. Never noticed any lighting problems.
